They are probably the two most quintessential British brands in the fashion industry, and so it makes perfect sense for Vivienne Westwood and The Cambridge Satchel Company to decide to work together.
The iconic British designer Vivienne Westwood, has just finished a successful exclusive capsule collection with Matches Fashion, and now she’s introducing another collaboration, this time with The Cambridge Satchel Company.
The collaboration will feature a limited edition collection which showcases the best of both designers, with the classic satchel shape and quality leather materials from The Cambridge Satchel Company, combined with the glorious squiggle pattern from Vivienne’s famous ’81 Pirate Collection.
And with fans from both designers, we are sure that this is one collection that will fly off the shelves, as the iconic bag brand has celebrities that include current Strictly Come Dancing contestant, Sophie Ellis Bextor, and Frankie from The Saturdays, Alexa Chung, Zooey Deschanel, Emma Stone and Lena Dunham.
The successful handbag company was founded in 2008 by entrepreneurial team Julie Deane and her mother Freda Thomas, when Julie’s children started asking her for satchels similar to the ones worn in the Harry Potter films.
With only £600, Julie searched for a leather supplier and started off with just 8 chestnut coloured bags. The rest is designer history, as now her handbags are seen on the arms of all manner of showbiz celebrities.
To create the limited edition range, Dame Vivienne Westwood took inspiration from her Pirate Collection of 1981, which just happened to be Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s first catwalk show. The design from this collection has been translated through the bags, with the use of the signature pattern and even the nude coloured straps and buckles are the same as the ones used on Vivienne Westwood’s pirate boots.
Julie Deane said of the collection: “I could not feel more excited to announce the collaboration of Vivienne Westwood and The Cambridge Satchel Company,” she added: “Vivienne Westwood is an iconic British designer with a strong ethical base and I am incredibly proud of the association.”
And Westwood’s design team said: “We are very pleased to be working with The Cambridge Satchel Company for this collaboration. Their satchels are nostalgic and fun and make the perfect canvas for our squiggle print.”
The bags are available in three sizes, and in three colour ways, yellow and black, white and red, and brown and black. These limited edition satchels are £195 for 14in and £170 for 11in. They are being sold exclusively at Vivienne Westwood standalone boutiques and The Cambridge Satchel Company stores in Rose Crescent Cambridge Store and Covent Garden from October.
