6 of the Best Video Doorbells for 2019

If you want to know who is at your front door when you are not in then why not invest in a video doorbell? Video doorbells use smart technology and link to your phone. They have cameras with wide lenses and you can select from a number of rings. These rings go directly to your phone. Not only can they record but many include motion detection and work in very low light. As their features include microphones and speakers it is easy to talk to whoever is at your door and give instructions for deliveries. Some are battery-operated whereas others connect to a mains supply. Battery-operated video doorbells are easier to install as you just screw them onto the door. Mains-operated video doorbells will require wiring.

Here are our recommendations for the best video doorbells:

Easy to operate and install. You do have to upload recorded videos to their cloud storage and pay £2.50 a month to access it, however. But we think that’s a small price to pay for this device.

Nest Hello Video Doorbell: £229

If you want to spend a little more than the standard Ring device but not as much as the Ring Elite, this doorbell from Nest ticks a lot of boxes. Crystal clear video which highlights the person, not the background (as some cameras do). The 4:3HD ratio gives you a head-to-toe view of who is at your door. If you opt into the Nest subscription package you get a host of cool features. One is the constant streaming and recording and the other is face recognition. The only bugbear is that you’ll need 800 to 2000 Kbps of upload bandwidth to support the constant streaming. And depending on the video setting, this could use up to 600GB of upload bandwidth per month.
