There are certain women on the planet that appear to have it all; stunning looks with a modelling career to follow, a solid marriage to a rock star husband and now a wonderful family to complete the happy picture. For some girls this would be enough but not Lily Aldridge. The Victoria’s Secret Angel has decided to turn her talented hand at designing, and teamed up with fashion brand Velvet to create her second collection.
The Velvet label asked the model back for a second time as her first outing for the brand proved to be so successful, and they naturally asked her to model the pieces from her SS14 collection.
The 28 year old model, who is married to rock star front man of Kings of Leon Caleb Followill spoke to Metro newspaper about the second collection: “I’ve loved the whole process. It’s every girl’s dream to design the perfect wardrobe.” And is seems that she added many of her own personal styles touches to the collection, which feature colour popping bodycon dresses, chunky knitwear and Breton striped tee shirts. Not only that but Lily has added further personal touches by naming the pieces in the new collection after her friends.
The range includes everything you need as a wardrobe staple and is full of essentials such as practical jeans, a great selection of plain tee shirts, shorts and jackets and mini skirts. And modelling the collection was a walk in the park for the model as she has been in the business since the age of four, getting her big break from legendary fashion photographer Bruce Weber.
At 16 she was spotted by a modelling scout and signed up to be the face of Abercrombie & Fitch, but despite her early foray into the industry, she told Metro that this wasn’t her first choice of career: “I played soccer for ten years. My dad is English and played for Arsenal’s junior team and was really into it so I thought that was what I was going to do.”
As well as modelling for Victoria’s Secret, she has also worked for Rag & Bone and Giles Deacon and appeared in ads for Coach, Clinque and Anthropologie.
Lily lives with her husband and one-year-old daughter Dixie Pearl on a farm in Nashville and although she has a figure to die for, she doesn’t believe in dieting; in an interview with Grazia she said: “I do a ballet routine four times a week, that’s really all. I eat a lot of organic foods, I cook, I indulge. You have to balance and have what’s good for you.”
So what’s next for this talented model? It appears that she may have Hollywood A lister Gwyneth Paltrow in her sights as she has plans to et up a lifestyle brand: “I want to create an organic beauty line, a fashion line and I’d love to do kidswear,” she added.
