Supermodel Karlie Kloss was revealed as the latest model to be the face of a new campaign for Nike last week. The 22-year-old showed off her toned figure in a range of poses for a photo-shoot with Brazilian designer Pedro Lourenço.

The new sportswear collection features nine pieces, designed to marry function and fashion, which appears to be the way many sports labels are heading these days.
Ms Kloss has been ranked by Vogue Paris as one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. She credits her ballet training at a young age with helping her pose in photo-shoots and move gracefully on the catwalk. In fact, it was on a catwalk for a benefit runway show that Ms Kloss was discovered by a modelling scout.
By the age of 14 she was already posing for a fashion magazine in Chicago. These pictures were seen by Elite NY, who then asked Ms Kloss to come to New York. In NY she was one of Zac Posen’s runway models during New York Fashion Week in 2008 and she famously closed NYFW for Marc Jacobs.
Talking abut runway walks, Ms Kloss describes hers as a ‘moody gait’, but others have been more complimentary. Tyra Banks, the head judge on America’s Next Top Model, said that Kloss was one of her favorite models because of her “unique, atypical beauty”.
Nike Capsule Collection
As for the nine piece Nike capsule collection, it has been designed specifically with the wearer’s comfort in mind. For instance, there are light-weight jackets that are still water resistant that are great for runners, and sports trousers that have hidden pockets for your essentials.
All the pieces are created to be worn in and out of the gym, and are part of Nike’s high-end luxury range. The Autumn Winter 2014 campaign includes pieces that have Nike’s Dri-FIT technology, a high-performance fabric that moves sweat away from the body and to the surface of the fabric.
Ms Kloss spoke to Grazia Daily about her involvement in the campaign:
“I am constantly on the move and love to be active. I studied ballet my whole life, so dance is a huge part of life for me and part of my exercise routine.” She added:
“I trained as a classical ballerina growing up. Ballet and dance are passions of mine. But I also love to learn and practice different ways to strengthen my body by trying out different strengthening exercises and intense workouts like the ones I’ve done with Nike Training Club Master Trainers. I like to switch it up and think that’s the best way to really challenge my body and become stronger in every way.”
She also talked about what she liked to wear in the gym:
“For me, it’s all about function. I want something that’s going to be functional, whether I’m running or dancing. I think it’s about being comfortable, but having apparel and footwear that are really wearable. I tend to work out in the morning and then go to the studio for work. So I want to wear something that I feel good in and can go to work in. When you wear athletic wear that you feel confident in, it’s motivation to actually get your butt to the gym.”
Ms Kloss may not seem like a typical choice for Nike, who usually pick athletes for campaigns, including Laura Robson and Paula Radcliffe, but when you consider her commitment to fitness, the choice is a little more obvious:
“One goal on my bucket list is to some day run a half marathon. With some group training, maybe within the next year or two, I’d love to run a half marathon, or even someday a marathon. I think goals are really important to have when you’re training. That’s one thing that I learned through ballet. With hard work, dedication and passion, you can really accomplish anything. I think a marathon will be a challenge, but I love a challenge. Bring it on.”
The new capsule collection launches on November 13th.
