In response to popular demand we are told, Victoria Beckham has decided to release a selection of her best-selling dresses in a collection she is calling the ‘Icon Collection’.
The 39 year-old mother of four has revealed that she wants to create a global fashion empire, and with this collection, she may soon have her wish. The collection features, as the titles suggests, some of Ms Beckham’s iconic pieces, and include the famous ‘braces’ dress, her popular ‘polo’ dress, as seen on the likes of Katherine Jenkins, and many of her fitted bodycon frocks.
The ex Spice Girls singer said that she had chosen the pieces to feature in the Icon Collection, in response to customer requests, and that the range has been reworked to create a special assortment of frocks. Speaking about how she decided which pieces should feature in the collection, she said: “I introduced ICON in response to requests for designs from customers as far back as my first collection, and I wanted to find a way to offer them key dresses from the archive, but in newly reworked colours and fabrics.”
The collection includes dresses from as far back as her first Spring/Summer 2009 collection and after. The pieces have had either subtle style changes, or have been reworked with new textures and fabrics, or a complete colour swap. All of the dresses accentuate Ms Beckham’s clever use of clean tailoring, exposed zips and unusual design quirks.
We particularly like the sporty polo shift in a new seasonal magenta hue, the yellow popping colour of the cross-straps dress, and in true Victoria style, the electric blue of the front pocket dress. Prices for the Icon Collection start at £1200 and reach £2100 for some of the more detailed pieces.
It is surely a sign of just how well Ms Beckham is faring within the fashion industry, as by releasing this collection, it shows that her styling and designs have timeless appeal, and are becoming known as classics, within their own right.
As she says herself: “I hope these updated styles will become unique, limited edition pieces and am excited to revisit other archive designs as Icon continues to grow.” And as further indication of her global takeover, the designer announced that her brand is opening a new office in New York, at the beginning of the New Year.
She took to Twitter to reveal details: ‘Excited to announce my NY office x vb’
The ex singer was spotted wearing one if her own designs, from her Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, when she picked up the Special Contribution to British Fashion award. The dress was made of a silk a wool blend, one of her favourite combinations of fabric, and features a sexy cut-out design, with straps and a full length hem.
The successful designer is also thought to be opening her first flagship store in Dover Street in London, sometime next year. She said about the possible opening: “This is where I want to have my first store. I’d like to do something that is really new, really fresh. Something a little bit conceptual – but not too much.”
