It is the highest accolade within the fashion world, to have a designer handbag named after you. Hermès kickstarted the trend back in 1981, when the CEO of the company was seated next to the actress and singer Jane Birkin on a plane and her bag fell from the overhead compartment, spilling all the contents onto the floor. Birkin bemoaned the fact that she could not get a weekend bag in leather that she liked and the rest is history.
Since then we have seen the Kelly bag from Hermès, named after Grace Kelly which was already a favourite of hers before it was officially designated. Mulberry have the Alexa, from the very modern Alexa Chung and the Del Ray from Lana Del Ray and more recently we have seen how a relatively unknown company Modalu have capitalised after Pippa Middleton was spotted carrying one of their bags. They duly renamed it The Pippa and it sold out.
But now there is a new kid on the block, literally, as Victoria Beckham has named a couple of her new bags in her collection after her very own daughter, Harper Seven. One is a new shoulder bag called Harper for £1250, and the other is a new style mini tote called Seven, priced at £1175. Not only that, but Victoria has also decided to call a bag after herself, and the Victoria bag is a based on the signature Beckham bag, but crafted with different leathers and priced at between £1995 and a whopping £18,000.
The Harper Shoulder Bag is available in light grey buffalo leather, or an acid lemon tan buffalo leather and both come with a calf-leather trim. The bag is simply structured and features an adjustable shoulder strap that has a stud-fastening detail, complete with a loop fastening on the front flap. Inside there are two compartments and on the outer at the back is a zip back pocket with the Victoria Beckham logo.
The Seven Mini Tote comes in either acid lemon buffalo leather or a dark chocolate buffalo leather, both available with a calf-leather trim. These mini bags are based on the Victoria Tote Mini, and feature the distinctive, bombé-curved shape with a simple structure. The leather has been specially dyed to accentuate the natural grain and the bag is complimented by a gold-plated zip along the top. The bag comes with a detachable shoulder strap and inside there are three compartments.
The Victoria Bag is available in either a tobacco alligator-skin for £18000, or a blue buffalo leather for £1995, both come with a calf-leather trim. The matt tobacco-coloured alligator-skin features a soft lamb-napa lining and comes with a smooth calf-leather trim and handles. For added security and structure there are clasp-fastening tabs and a slide lock-fastening folding top.
