Thank goodness they weren’t at the same shindig! As the BBC unwittingly showcased Victoria Beckham’s iconic red gown on two of its most popular programmes and celebrities last night.
Opera singer and Dancing with the Stars runner up – Katherine Jenkins, first stepped into the fashion spot light, wearing Mrs Beckham’s gorgeously understated red gown, as she appeared on the results show of Strictly Come Dancing.
She took to the stage to sing a track from her new album, and gave a super sexy rendition of Santa Baby, whilst two of the professional dancers gyrated around her.
A little while later, Olympic gold medallist Jessica Ennis donned her VB gown for the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year, of which she was a contender. The 26 year old athlete stunned audiences by rocking up in the most glamourous outfit of the night, bar Bradley Wiggins, who looked like he could seriously knock out a few rock tunes himself.
Jessica finished as the runner up to Bradley with around 26% of the viewers vote, but all eyes were on her derriere as many admiring fans took to Twitter to suggest her for a contender of the ‘rear of the year’ competition, with one tweeter commenting: ‘Move over pippa @J_Ennis is now Queen of the bottom!’, while another said: ‘Jessica Ennis’s bum deserves an award,’ and one joked: ‘Pippa Middleton is seething with jealousy at all the attention Jessica Ennis’s bum is getting on Twitter right now.’
Another tweeter said of the dress: ‘You looked amazing in it.with a touch of pippa *ahem*’ – while Jessica herself also tweeted her thoughts on her outfit, saying: ‘Thank you @victoriabeckham for the stunning dress. Didn’t want to take it off :)’ Jessica teamed her VB gown with some simple black accessories and a lovely down do for her hair, whilst glamour puss Ms Jenkins opted for a more bouffant 60’s style of hair, and simple silver jewellery.
The Victoria Beckham red gown is fast becoming a celebrity favourite, much as the Stella McCartney Saskia gown did a few weeks ago, having been seen on the likes of Tess Daly, Kate Moss, Kate Winslet and also Katherine Jenkins. Other celebrity fans of the VB dress include Priya Runchal, who wore the longer length version with her partner John Abraham to the GQ Men of the year awards in 2012, and Wimbledon winner and all round tennis star Serena Williams rocked the shorter version, at a recording of the David Letterman Show in the States. Proving that quality and a classic cut knows no boundaries!
