Fans of the Disney film Toy Story will no doubt have collected memorabilia over the years, but now they can wear iconic footwear designed by Vans.
California-based company Vans are themselves celebrating 50 years of providing deck shoes to skateboarders, so what better way to mark this occasion than to team up with Disney?
The Vans Disney•Pixar Toy Story collection showcases Andy’s favourite toys from the film, all spread across a range of footwear, clothing and accessories. And best of all, for all those big kids out there, the collection includes adult pieces as well.
Vans was founded in 1966 by brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren alongside partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia. What made Vans different is that it made shoes onsite and sold them to the public, cutting out the middleman.
Vans gained a reputation amongst skateboarders who liked the sticky sole of the deck shoes. Ten years later, the padded collar and contrasting colour combinations of the Van Era are the shoe of choice for skaters across generations.
Disney’s Toy Story was released in 1995 and was an instant hit amongst children and adults.
The story told the tale of a group of toys who came to life when the adults were not around, and featured characters such as Sheriff Woody and Buzz Lightyear. The characters were brought to life by the incredible voices of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen.
The characters are used in the Van Collection to create iconic footwear and clothing apparel.
You can see Sheriff Woody of three different sets of footwear. There is the Sk8-Hi Reissue PT which takes elements of Woody’s cowboy boots and uses them to form the basis for a full-grain leather shoe, complete with custom cactus embroidery.
The Old Skool shoe takes inspiration from cow hide and includes denim, finished with a side stripe of leather. Pictures of Woody can be found on Authentic that is printed on denim and features a brown foxing stripe and waxed laces.
Other classics includes the Old Skool, which includes the signature colours of purple and greens that depict Buzz Lightyear. The Sk8-Hi Reissue has cool glow in the dark stars and elements on it, whilst the Era depicts the iconic scene in which Woody and Buzz encounter the claw amongst the aliens.
The Vans/Disney collection also features other characters such as Slinky Dog, Hamm, Bo Peep and Rex. Bo Peep has her very own style shoe in a special pink polka-dot edition Sk8-Hi Slim that comes with a lace-adorned side stripe. There is also a shoe that features Woody and Bo Peep together on the pink Authentic.
Mutant toys belonging to Sid have not been forgotten. They have their very own Classic Slip-On that depicts Roller Bob, Legs, Rockmobile and Baby Face alongside skulls against a black background.
If shoes aren’t your thing, there’s also a range of accessories that include tee-shirts, backpacks, fleeces, hats and socks.
The Disney•Pixar Toy Story collection is available to shop in Vans retail stores and online from October 7th.
