Unexpected Places to Experience History and Culture

Sometimes people want to plan a trip that they will be able to learn something new on. This could be history of the place or just general information about the place they are travelling to, such as what language is spoken there, what the locals eat and drink and so forth… All too often, however, people will overlook some really great locations because they are not that widely known yet. If you are looking for a “different” location to visit, in order to extend your knowledge and, why not, expose yourself to new experiences which might have a positive impact on your life, there are a few places you might want to consider before you book your stay!

Jonesborough Tennessee

Jonesborough Tennessee is the oldest city in Tennessee (Southeastern U.S.) which, in itself, makes this location interesting enough. In fact, it is older than the state itself, as it was founded in 1779, when Tennessee didn’t even exist. Storytelling is widely known and loved in the community and festivals flood the streets in the summer time.  If you’re looking for something with more of a southern comfort feel, then this would be a good place for you go and experience. The city has a population of 4, 168, which may sound scary, especially if you come from a big city and are very sociable, but is actually a good thing, as it is will be easier for you to make tons of new friends, being people here extremely warm and hospitable, just like most southerners.

Appomattox Virginia

This area screams history of the civil war era and it’s no wonder why since this is where Robert E Lee made his last stand in defending the confederates. If you want to learn more about the American civil war or just take in a little piece of history then going to Appomattox could be a wonderful time for you indeed. Moreover, this area was once inhabited by the Appamatuck Indian tribe and currently has a population of less than 2050. This would certainly be an interesting alternative to those common holiday destinations you have probably already been to yourselves.

South Africa

If you are more interested in taking in a lot of culture, then going to South Africa could be what you are looking for. A trip here is sure to show you just how vastly different some of our world’s cultures really are. In coming here you are sure to experience wonderful times learning about the area as well as seeing some very interesting animals you don’t see everyday as well.

In choosing a place to visit you should always research the area beforehand to really see if it would fit into your plans. In doing that you are just making sure that the area will suit your needs and those of your partner, family and/or friends, if you are not travelling alone. However, no matter where you go, you are sure to have a good time if you love to experience new things and learn of other cultures that, not everybody gets the chance to experience.
