The Hottest New Nail Trends for Spring 2013

A surprise winner on many of the catwalks this year was not the clothing collections, but the nails. And with looks such as liquid sand, concrete textures and basket weaves holding centre stage, it’s no longer acceptable to withhold the polish.

This spring sees a multitude of bright hues from Ciaté’s Colourfoil nails and Nails Inc leather polishes, to the more muted shades of Butter London and Dior’s sheer pink super glow which gives the illusion of a French Manicure in one coat.

Here’s what we think will be definite head turners for the spring season:

FRENCH MANICURE – Dior Nail Glow Polish £16.77

Dior Nail Glow Polish

A real swipe and go kind of polish, Dior’s Nail Glow boosts the natural pink bed colour of your nails, and at the same times brightens up the tip, to instantly create a French manicure effect. Apply to bare nails for a shining finish and healthy, glowing effect. From Nordstrom

VELVET – Ciaté Velvet Manicure £14.00

Velvet textures were a huge hit in the fashion shows this year, and the darker colours look absolutely sublime. Created by Charlotte Knight, Ciaté’s Creative Director, the finished effect is an indulgent and sophisticated look. From ciate.co.uk

PASTEL – Nails Inc Ice Cream & Sprinkles Collection $16.50

Taking inspiration from the Spring/Summer 2013 pastel trends, you get three mini-shades in a designed gift box. There are two high-gloss shades or a limited-edition mint polish with a sprinkles-effect to choose from. From Sephora.com

SPECKLED – Illamasqua Speckled $16

Illamasqua Speckled

We love Illamasqua here at Shoppersbase, and this is why. Really unusual gorgeous colours that remind us of bird eggs, complimented with tiny speckles, which, if you look closer, are actually made of black glitter. From Sephora.

3D – Orly MegaPixel FX $10

These “3D” polishes are right up there with concrete, leather and liquid sand. Wear the polish in two ways–either apply to coats for an amazing 3D “pixel” effect, or add the topcoat for a more glossy glitter look.

NUDES – Butter London Starters Nail Polish Trio $40

Designed to match your mood, these three nude shades go from light to dark and can go with any outfit. Team with monochromes and the shades are a toasty range of “Shandy,” “Crumpet,” and “Tea & Toast.” Buy at Goop.

LIQUID SAND – OPI Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer £11.50

OPI Liquid Sand Nail Lacquer

If you have problems with glitter polish where the glitter does not lay on the nails uniformly, then check out OPI’s Liquid Sand polish. The new technology means that the glitter is evenly and heavily distributed, so you do not have to apply several coats. You get a lovely matte, rough-textured finish. From www.lenawhite.co.uk.

REPTILE – Essie £9.99

Essie

We love this! For show stopping nails all you have to do is apply two coats of the nail polish on your nails and then sweep the magnet over them and you will get amazing reptile effects. Amazing! From Boots and Superdrug.
