You know what it’s like, one minute you are standing in the middle of a sunny field and the next thing the skies have opened and you are in a downpour. It just goes to show that you cannot trust the British weather and should always be prepared so that you don’t get soaked.
When buying a waterproof jacket you should consider how light it is if you are carrying it around for long periods, also how small it packs down and of course, how waterproof is it? Some jackets are fully waterproof and others just showerproof and in a big downpour that makes a huge difference.
Another thing to consider is how comfortable they are to wear. Some material can be quite heavy and awkward to wear but do offer more protection against the elements.
We have scoured the internet and here are our recommendations for best women’s waterproof festival jackets:
Boohoo Ellie Floral Hooded Festival Rain Mac – £16
This rain mac from Ellie is not fully waterproof but will keep out light showers thanks to the water-resistant material. It features a gathered waist and a hood that is attached with poppers. There are pockets at the front with Velcro fastenings and the length is longer than most so ideal for sitting on damp grass without getting wet.
V by Very Long Reversible Festival Mac – £20
A chance to buy this versatile mac from Very at half the original price. We like the longer length of this one, as some waterproof jackets only just cover the bottom. This one covers much more and keeps you protected when the weather is wet. It is reversible and shower-resistant, not fully waterproof.
M&S Collection Pack Away Parka with Stormwear – £27.50
A super lightweight parka here that is designed to be packed away into a little bag when not in use. It features a water repellent material that is waterproof and the design is a loose fit so that you can wear warmer clothes underneath.
Joules Go Lightly Pack Away Waterproof Parka – £29.95
This jacket by Joules is now half price so it is an amazing bargain. There are three different designs including a spotty blue one and a French Navy Dog but we love this camouflage floral one. All of the designs feature a large hood and handy pockets, taped seams to keep the rain out and they are suitable for heavy downpours. It is lightweight and packs down to a really small size.
New Look Rainbow Trim Clear Anorak Jacket – £29.99
Fully waterproof jacket here from New Look that is both fashionable and practical. Completely see-through with rainbow colour trims, a large hood and a glossy fabric which is a vinyl material and easy to wash clean. No pockets but press-stud placket fastening is designed to keep out the water.
Leena Women’s Waterproof Jacket – £49.99
A long length jacket here that is fully waterproof and designed with bad weather in mind. It features a high neck for extra protection and a hood that you can remove. There are also taped seams and it is made from breathable material so you won’t end up in a sweaty mess.
Topshop Love Heart Print Raincoat – £55
This is a showerproof raincoat that won’t keep you dry in really heavy rain but great for light showers. It features a drawstring hood so you can tighten up when the weather really gets wet, and two fold over pockets, it closes with a zip which is concealed by snap buttons
The North Face Women’s Quest Jacket – £67.00
North Face has a reputation for high quality performance gear and this jacket is just one in a range of different designs for women. It is fully waterproof thanks to the outer shell and features a tight hood with a chin guard to keep out the worst weather. Comes in three different colours including sweet violet (shown), black and red.
Craghoppers Deep Blue Discovery Adventures Stretch Waterproof Jacket – £120.00
This jacket features an innovative Aquadry membrane permanent waterproof technology which makes the jacket water-resistant and breathable. The fabric is lightweight and stretchy and includes a hood with a zipped fastening down the front.
Hunter Women’s Original Packable Jacket – £195
If you want to look stylish and stay dry then Hunter has a huge range of waterproof jackets and ponchos. We love this waterproof jacket because the material is soft and lightweight and it even comes with its own bag for you to pack it away in. Water-resistant, so it won’t stand the heaviest of downpours but will be fine for showers. Features snaps at cuffs to keep out the rain and like most Hunter products will last you for years.
