Vegans have had to put up with some pretty ugly looking bags if they wanted to stick to their principles. Luckily top brands have begun to realise that more and more of us are not willing to sacrifice fashion for cruelty. Some labels are even making a name for themselves by only designing vegan accessories and cruelty-free products. And there’s not a hessian satchel between them, instead you have gorgeous totes, bucket bags that look like the real thing, and unique clutches that are red-carpet ready.
Here’s our pick of the best vegan bags:
We have to showcase Matt & Nat first as they are trail-blazers for vegan accessories. This company from Canada have been designing since 1995 and make bags, wallets and even shoes, all in vegan materials. We love this gorgeous cherry-coloured backpack, in a sleek design with adjustable straps and hidden pockets. Comes in four other colours.
A British brand here that are making a huge name for themselves in the vegan bags world. They use cruelty-free and eco-friendly materials wherever they can and have some of the most unique designs we’ve ever seen. This is one of our favourites, made from a lightweight cork leather and you have to see the material to believe it, it’s very touchable! Features a pouch-style compartment at the front and comes in four different colours.
If you have been looking for a bag that looks as if it has been made out of suede but have had no luck then look no further. This one is a vegan faux leather bag with tassled ends and contains multiple zipper pockets with a lined interior with zip and slip pockets. You can remove the tassels if you don’t like them and the strap is adjustable. Also available in tan.
- M.R.K.T Kendrick Backpack – £99
Based in Los Angeles, M.R.K.T (which stands for Mad Rabbit Kicking Tiger if you’re interested) like to design vegan bags that are inspired by architecture. Can you guess which building inspired this bag? Certainly not the Eiffel Tower. What we like about these bags are the sumptuous fabrics and the colours. This one is made from soft felt and vegan leather and is perfect for carrying around a 13-inch laptop.
If you are looking for something a little more bling but sophisticated then look no further. Based in LA, Melie Bianco combines the look of snakeskin with subtle colours that work perfectly. This one comes with an optional shoulder strap and in two colours, pink (shown) or black.
You would think this was made out of leather, it looks so authentic and this is one of LaBante’s best-selling points. This carryall bag features lovely gold hardware, detachable wallets inside and is designed in a bucket style that you wear over your shoulder. People will not know it is not leather. Material is 100% polyurethane.
We love this gorgeous bag from Wilby for two reasons, the colour and the style. It shows you that being vegan does not mean you are boring and frumpy, quite the opposite, you are outgoing, fashionable and have a conscience. This is our second bag from Wilby and it features their signature Wilby chains that help to secure the bag.
One of our favourite vegan bags that looks like it is made from embossed leather that features cute little cut outs of flower shapes that would fool the most hardened meat eater. It closes with hidden magnets and has a removable and adjustable strap.
- Noah Borsa Paola Nappa-Cuoio – £83.22
If you are looking for a bag that will suit the office or work this one is surely going to tick all your boxes. It looks like a classic vintage bag that has been handed down through the family. The material looks aged and is actually made from a high-tech microfibre material that looks like leather. Has a structured base and shipping costs to the UK are around a tenner.
