TV celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall was furious a few months ago as he uncovered a little known fact that the take-away coffee cups we use from coffee chains are not recyclable. In fact, it is estimated that around 2.5 billion are thrown away every year in the UK alone.
With this in mind, buying a reusable coffee mug seems to make perfect sense, not only are you cutting down of the amount of waste that goes into our landfills, but you get a sturdier cup for your money.

It would seem churlish not to mention a mug from Waitrose as they do offer free beverages to shoppers in their supermarkets. I have one of these coffee mugs and for a couple of quid it is fabulous value for money. Made from plastic, it does the job, keeps the coffee warm whilst I go around the shops buying my groceries.
If you are looking for a pretty reusable coffee mug you won’t get a nicer looking one than this. Made from porcelain but dishwasher safe, this one features a beautiful design from the National Trust.
An Australian brand here that offers reusable coffee mugs in five different sizes and a range of different colour combinations, so no worrying about fitting your small espresso into a tall latte mug. They also come in different materials, including a cork and glass version but we like the original BPA-free plastic that you can recycle at the end of the mug’s life.

A more fun travel coffee mug here from John Lewis that features Pusheen the Cat in various guises on the sides. Made from plastic this coffee mug keeps drinks hot for an hour or so and comes with a bright pink plastic lid.
These reusable coffee mugs are made from silicon so they are slightly more flexible than our others, but it does withstand temperatures of up to 200 degrees. Keeps hot drinks hot and yet remains cool to the touch. Comes in a range of different colours including green, white, black and brown.
Constructed from bamboo fibre and corn starch, this company are taking a stand against the millions of cups thrown into landfills every year. So if you are looking for reusable coffee mugs, buy one from here, as when you are finished with it, it can go straight into the compost heap where it will degrade naturally. Loads of designs including William Morris and plain graphics.
It’s fair to say that Bodum know a thing about coffee making and equipment and accessories, so it is not surprise that they have introduced a reusable coffee mug too. This one is made from stainless steel that helps to retain the heat of the drink inside and comes with a closable lid. Available in red or off white.
Manufactured from the husks of rice, which in itself is a waste product of rice milling, this coffee mug takes recycling to a whole new level. Created out of a waste product and completely biodegradable, it is lightweight but sturdy enough to carry a hot drink. What we like is there is not metallic twang you get with some stainless steel flasks.
