If you are anything like me, you curse your ultra-fine English hair that is dead straight and never holds a wave, let alone a curl. But recently I have been experimenting with different hair thickening products and I have seen a massive difference in the weight and texture of my hair.
It now feels stronger, thicker, and tends to stay styled for longer. And if these products can work on my thin hair they will certainly make a difference to yours.
Here are my top picks for the best hair thickening products:
Biotin and Collagen Thickening Shampoo – £1.00
You might have to use this for several months before you see any noticeable results but week after week I began to see my hair getting thicker and stronger. This is the base product I used to get started on my hair thickening quest. It is really affordable and you can find it in stores such as Home Bargains and Pound Shops. One of the most affordable hair thickening products on the market.
L’Oreal Paris Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo 50ml – £2.99
This shampoo uses an ingredient called Filloxane which works to thicken the hair fibres and used along with the conditioner gives you thicker hair wash after wash. Also provides a lovely deep cleansing so perfect for oily hair.
Umberto Giannini Glam Cheat Volumising Dry Shampoo – £6
For days that you don’t wash and your hair feels greasy and limp, using a dry shampoo to add texture and bounce is a great idea, but which one? This cheat dry shampoo from Umberto Giannini contains proteins and moisturisers that smooth the hair follicles and repair the cuticles. Strengths the hair shaft whilst adding volume.
OGX Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner 385ml – £6.99
The problem I found with using the Biotin and Collagen shampoo was that it tended to strip the ends of my hair from oil. I remedied this by using the above conditioner that added argan oil and thickened the ends without adding weight. Strengthened my hair and helped to prevent breakages.
John Frieda Luxurious Volume Core Restore Advanced Protein Volumiser – £9.99
You should use this after you have shampooed and conditioned as it is a volumiser that penetrates the hair shafts and plumps them out by reinforcing the proteins which makes them stronger and less prone to breakage. Leaves hair not just thicker but glossier and softer too.
Kérastase Densifique Densimorphose Thickening Treatment Mousse 150ml – £18.70
What Kérastase don’t know about hair products you don’t need to know. Used by salons all over the country, this mousse instantly adds texture and volume without weight and hair feels thicker and stronger.
Kiehl’s Rice and Wheat Volumizing Conditioning Rinse – £19.50
The problem with some conditioners is that they can weigh the hair down, due to the ingredients required to smooth the cuticles. This conditioner uses rice and wheat which are lightweight and provides super thickening qualities.
VIVISCAL Gorgeous Growth Densifying Elixir 50ml – £20.00
This is a body-boosting solution that you leave in and contains pea sprouts and grape seeds for thicker, fuller-looking hair. This is one of only a few hair thickening products that has had clinical trials and won awards in the hair industry and the brand is loved by A-list celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Katherine Jenkins.
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish – £23
This is a dry spray that contains raw silk powders that instantly add volume and thickness with no sticky residue or smell. It works just like a dry shampoo, and is best used the day after washing to add extra bounce on a flat hair day.
Rahua Voluminous Shampoo – £28
If you want faster results than waiting a few weeks and months before you see any difference in the thickness of your hair, try this shampoo from Rahua. It leaves your hair feeling thick and soft, full of volume for days at a time. It is particularly good for anyone with oily hair as the lemongrass strips the oil from the roots, leaving the hair grease-free for a lighter feel. Reported fans include Megan Fox and Olivia Wilde.
