Your eyebrows make a huge impact on your appearance. Thin or over-plucked eyebrows can age you, whilst unruly and untidy eyebrows can make you look under-groomed and scruffy.
If, like me, you have sparse eyebrows due to ageing, then you might have experimented with different products. The most obvious choice when you want to make up for thinning brows are eyebrow pencils. There is a big difference in the quality and ingredients of eyebrow pencils; some are richly pigmented whilst others contain more wax. This means the application will differ depending on which eyebrow pencil you choose.
To save you having to test several products, we have picked ten of the best eyebrow pencils:
This is the eyebrow pencil that I use. If you just need to add a little color to your brows then there is no point in forking out a fortune when a simple pencil will do. There are three colours available, hazel, dark brown, black/brown. Comes with a handy brush on the lid (but I lost mine ages ago).
You get a brush on one end of this pencil to comb and tame your eyebrows, then on the other end is the pencil. We like the fine tip that allows you to fill in sparse eyebrows naturally. Only gripe is that there’s just three colours available, taupe, neutral brown and deep brown.
Another eyebrow pencil here that combines a pencil and a brush. First tidy up your brows then use the lovely thin nib for filling in any gaps. More colour choice with NYX, eight shades including taupe, ash brown, blonde and espresso.
If you have red hair then you’ll already know that getting an eyebrow pencil in an auburn colour is nigh on impossible. Leave it to MAC to sort it out, as they have created several realistic shades for redheads and blondes. The highly pigmented colour gives precise application whilst the powder texture adds a velvet touch.
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to HD Brows and products to enhance your natural eyebrow shape, but we like this pencil which twists up meaning you never have to worry about having a sharpener to hand. Only three colours available in blonde, medium and dark brown.
There are six shades from Benefit, including three light browns and three darker ones. The pencil is thin enough for you to draw in individual hairs, whilst the spoolie brush is perfect for filling in gaps with colour.
A three-in-one tool here that features a brush, a pencil and a highlighter hidden underneath the brush. Use the brush to define eyebrows, the triangle tip of the pencil to add colour and apply the highlighter under the arch for an instant lift. Five colours available including blondes, red and browns.
You get a lovely matt, powdery texture with this eyebrow pencil from By Terry that is perfect for creating soft and subtle brows which you can then brush through. Only two colours available, a basic nude and an ash brown. You do get a handy pencil sharpener with this product.
As we get up to the higher priced products the quality of eyebrow pencils inevitably changes for the better. This sculpting pencil contains a variety of ingredients including waxes and powders and is designed as a twist-up product that has a brush at the other end. The triangle-shaped tip allows you to create the tiniest of lashes and there are two colours available.
A much-loved product for make-up artists that has the most natural-looking shades out of all our featured products. Comes with a slanted tip for easy application and you get a brush at one end and when you twist the cap at the other end it reveals a sharpener. The unique calligraphy tip allows for ultra-thin or wider strokes. Four colours available including taupe and chestnut.
