Years ago a good party platter would consist of some sausage rolls, slices of quiche and if you’re lucky, a few king prawns. Nowadays party platters have become more sophisticated and feature some really tasty items such as mini hog roasts with crackling, sticky savoury lollipops and popping candy bites.
There are some brands that even make the cooking easy by producing party platters that can be cooked all at the same time and at the same heat.
We have held a special tasting session here at Shoppersbase, I know, it’s a tough job some days.
Here are our best party platters for Christmas:
ASDA Extra Special 12 Luxury Pork & Cranberry Sausage Rolls – £2.75
Not just any sausage roll, these are festive ones that contain tender pork and juicy cranberries, wrapped in butter puff pastry sprinkled with a parsley crumb.
M&S 20 Bacon Wrapped Mac & Cheese Stacks – £14.00
Small bite-sized little parcels filled with soft pasta in a rich cheesy sauce and wrapped in crispy smoked dry cured streaky bacon.
Waitrose Filled croissants 24s – £16.00
We liked these little croissants as they cooked in just five minutes and were packed full of delicious tangy fillings such as cheese and ham, mushrooms and egg.
Sticky Asian-Style Chicken Lollipops (24 Pieces) – £12.00
Lollipops are all the rage these days and you can get savoury versions, like these sticky Asian chicken ones, or cake varieties. These are made from succulent chicken pieces mixed with red pepper and spring onion in a sticky sauce.
ASDA Extra Special 10 Pulled Beef Wellingtons – £3.50
These mini beef wellingtons were our favourites, and they were simple to cook and serve. Tender pulled beef with mushrooms in a rich red wine sauce, wrapped in butter-enriched puff pastry and topped with a festive puff pastry star.
The Best 10 Duck Straws with Hoisin Dip – £3.50
These are a real party hit, you get soft shredded duck in spring rolls dipped into hoisin sauce with a crispy battered exterior. Serve with sliced spring onions.
Tesco Finest 8 Mini Crayfish Cocktail – £5.00
Much posher than an ordinary prawn cocktail, these mini crayfish ones are served in their own little pots, all you have to do is pop them on a tray with some lemon wedges.
24 Hog Roast on Mini Crackling Plates – £14.00
Delicious moist shredded pork combined with a tasty sage & onion stuffing and a dollop of caramelised apple sauce, all served on little crispy pork crackling plates.
Iceland 12 Macarons – £3.00
Sweet party platters can be a bit boring, but you can seriously raise the game with these delicious macarons, in 6 flavours including pistachio, vanilla, lemon, chocolate, raspberry and praline.
Heston from Waitrose 16 Cracking Chocolate Bites – £8.99
Lovely little bites here from the king of cooking, they are like a magical Ferrer Roche! Rich, dark and smooth chocolate filled with a passion fruit ganache, served on a wafer base made of hazelnuts and popping candy.
