April might be over but if May is anything to go by we haven’t seen the last of the rain. In fact, the weather has been wetter this month than the two preceding it!
With this in mind, we thought we would cast our eyes on raincoats for women. Gone are the days when you had to struggle with a smelly, old and damp oiled up raincoat that stank of petrol if you wanted to keep dry. Nowadays, with the inventions of new fabrics that are both waterproof and breathable, the choices are much more varied and exciting.
Here’s what we think will be catching your eyes this spring:
Just because the weather is rubbish doesn’t mean you have to let your standards slip when it comes to looking fabulous! French Connection know all about stylish clothing and if anyone can make a raincoat look sexy, they can.
This Angel Raincoat is made using a smoky, sheer finish so that you can see exactly what you are wearing underneath.
MOST STAND OUT LOOK
Joe Browns have come a long way from making weird festival dresses that only a few people ever wanted to wear. They are now positively mainstream, although they might not want to admit it. This floral raincoat demonstrates how you can have a pretty pattern on a functional item of clothing. The garment is shower-proof and there is a hood, a cosy jersey lining, and a drawstring waist.
Perfect for that latest festival or equally walking down the High Street.
The North Face has a great reputation for high-quality garments that work under pressure. This Women’s Stratos Jacket is no exception. Perfect for light to moderate walking. The fabric is waterproof and breathable and it has a mesh lining to keep you comfortable when you are sweating.
There are also pockets for your hands and vents for your pits! A great jacket for hiking or walking the dog.
This company has made their very own fabric called Tin Cloth©. It is a lightweight, 100% organic and waterproof cotton that is their version of an oilskin. Tin Cloth is both breathable, and hardwearing and water simply runs off it. It is super light and the jacket is stylish, created with a dipped hem, as many parkas are.
This one comes in three different colours, wreckage (featured), rust and hedgerow.
WORTH A SPLURGE
Anyone that has ever bought a pair of Hunter’s wellington boots will know the quality and workmanship behind this iconic company. Their boots last for years and years, and that is what you pay for. This is a water-resistant smock that is both lightweight and comes with an elasticated draw cord which can be pulled in to adapt to your figure. It is made of crease-resistant polyester which you can fold up and pack away as it has been specifically designed for travelling and storage.
The material has a richly coloured matte finish. Available in green, blue, black, pink or red.
BEST VALUE FOR MONEY
Who would have thought you could buy an Animal product for less than twenty five quid? This Women’s Becci Animal lightweight jacket is made from 100% polyester and features the most gorgeous floral print. It comes with a hood and adjustable draw cords. You zip up the front and there are two pockets. It is shower-resistant and there’s the embroidered Animal logo on the chest.
