No such thing as a picnic hamper when I was a child. If we went out anywhere we would carry our food in plastic bags and eat off a blanket from one of our bedrooms.
Times, thankfully, have moved on, and nowadays there are some beautiful picnic hampers that cry out to be filled with cool, iced drinks and savouries.
So although the weather might not have been playing ball this June, we’ve sorted out the best picnic hampers in the hopes that a sunny day is not far away.
This is a luxury hamper but at a budget price. The sturdy wicker hamper holds place settings for four, which include a full dinner set, wine glasses, condiment holders and three cooler bags, two large ones for food, the other for wine. And there’s no plastic crockery or cutlery here, the plates are ceramic and the cutlery is stainless steel. There’s also a handy multi-tool drinks opener. And it looks fabulous!
WORTH A SPURGE
There’s everything you could possibly need in this hamper, and more. The hamper comes with the usual place settings for four people, including ceramic plates and cutlery, but it’s the additional extras we love. There are napkins, a picnic blanket, a flask for hot or cold drinks and steel mugs. The actual hamper is constructed using light double steamed willow which makes it light to carry and the handle is real leather.
BEST BUDGET HAMPER
For under twenty quid you don’t get much more value for money than this hamper from Lekeez. Includes settings for either two or four diners, the plates are ceramic, there is cutlery with plastic handles, ceramic mugs, condiment shakers and a wine opener. You can also have a choice of finishes of wicker colour and inner lining.
