With her undoubtable chart success, and her perfume range selling out in days, many people must have wondered what was the next step for the risque singer. Well, now we know! She will be co-hosting a new TV show in which the basic premise is to find a new fashion designer. Barbadian Rihanna, who always looks perfectly turned out and wears the most beautiful and iconic clothes, will oversee several British designers, all vying for the chance to dress the outrageous singer. The pop superstar, who has had much international success with her chart-topping music, and ruffled many feathers with her on and off stage antics, including getting chucked off an English farm for going topless, will co star along side Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts. Rihanna says of the show, “I have been very fortunate to work with some truly amazing designers and stylists throughout my career, and they have been instrumental in making sure my creative vision reaches the stage.
I am excited to follow the journey of our aspiring contestants and see how their individuality influences their efforts during the course of the show.” The “We Found Love” songstress, who has come under fire from critics for her revealing outfits on TV programmes such as The X Factor, who claim her clothes are too overtly sexual for her young fans, will have the job title of Executive Producer for the show. The programme will air on Britain’s Sky Living network. A statement on the channel’s website read:
“The show will celebrate the extraordinary talent and creativity in the British fashion scene. With Rihanna, a fashion icon herself, and Nicola, who created her own Dainty Doll make-up range, at the helm, the show will recognise the increasing influence popstars have on mainstream trends.”
As Rihanna no doubt loves fashion and style, she will involve herself heavily in the casting and the lucky winner of the programme will get to design a stage outfit for Rihanna’s Wireless performance in London’s Hyde Park in July 2012. Rihanna talked to Sky Living saying, “I’ve always had a great love of fashion. It’s a constant source of inspiration in my life, and is a big reason why I’ve grown into the person and artist I am today.” And Nicola was quite chuffed to be working along side her idol, calling her one of her ‘style icons’ and commenting, “I was so flattered when Rihanna asked me to work
