Rihanna launches Summer clothing line with River Island

Clearly, the first Rihanna collection for River Island must have been a huge success, as the UK retail brand have asked her back for a second time, to design her latest Summer Collection.

The new range of stylish clothes from the 25 year old Barbadian singer includes some now classic Rihanna designs, such as the tie around shorts, dip hemmed dresses and skirts, and a range of funky baseball caps.

The new collection became available online at River Island on May 25th, after months of speculation as to whether the singer would be asked back for a second season. And the early signs are that certain popular items are already selling out, particularly in the smaller 6 to 8 sizes.

Despite a reputation for being a bad girl, Rihanna seems to be going from strength to strength, as her collaboration with cosmetic giants MAC proved to be a massive success, with her new Ri-Ri Woo lipstick totally selling within hours of her posting details of how to buy it online.

The new collection from the Diamonds singer appears to be bolder and brighter than her first collaboration with River Island, suggesting that she might be gaining more confidence in her design abilities.

Talking about her new collection, she said: “I made a piece for everybody in my crew, we all have different body types and different tastes – some are braver than others. I think like that because that’s how women in the world are. We’re all different, we like different things, we have different occasions and different moods.”

And it seems that above all, comfort and wear-ability appear to be top of Rihanna’s design musts, as she talked about the process in which she came up with ideas for her clothing range: “I just wanted stuff that I wanted to wear because at the end of the day that’s what got me into designing – seeing things on the rack that were great, but that could have been a little more me,” she added: “Maybe they could have been a little longer or shorter, or have a little more sex appeal or a little less.

I wanted to make clothes for fat days; stuff that I want to wear. I was being selfish. Hopefully, my friends and people who shop at River Island will have the same taste.”

True to her word, since the release of the summer collection, Rihanna has been spotted out in no less than 14 of her own designs, proving that she really does love her own style! In fact, she even wore the floral shorts and crop top combo for her 25th birthday party.
