Russell Armstrong, the estranged husband of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” reality star Taylor Armstrong was found dead in his Los Angeles home it was reported yesterday. Apparently the husband of the star of the show had been found hanging in a apparent suicide but no suicide note has yet been discovered.
The coroner for Los Angeles County, Ed Winter says 47-year-old Russell Armstrong was pronounced dead at 8:16 pm on Monday in a home on Mulholland Drive. Russell Armstrong was an investment banker and venture capitalist but his wife, Taylor found fame on the reality show and Russell’s publicist Rebekah Iliff confirmed that they were in the middle of divorce proceedings. Taylor had filed for divorce after 5 years of marriage last month, citing verbal and physical abuse as the main reason.
Their marriage problems were said to be a focal point of the reality show and are due to be aired next month but it is unlikely now that Bravo TV will broadcast them.
The divorce may have been the primary reason for Armstrong to take his own life but financial problems should not be ruled out. In a statement to TMZ by his lawyer, Ronald Richards said that Russell was “extremely bummed out about the divorce with Taylor” but his financial woes may have also been a factor. The investment banker had filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in 2005 and was recently sued by one of his former clients for around $1.5 million.
Following Taylor’s accusations of abuse, Russell responded to People magazine by saying, “Did I push her? Yes, maybe things happened in the heat of the moment, but it was during a time in our lives that was not characteristic of who we were. This show has literally pushed us to the limit.” Armstrong leaves behind three children, a five-year-old daughter, Kennedy, with Taylor, an 11-year-old son with former fiancee Milette Fields and a 13-year-old son from his ex-wife Barbara Frederickson. Taylor is apparently ‘hysterical’ after learning about the death Monday night and as yet has not told their daughter, Kennedy. Bravo have released a statement saying they are ‘deeply saddened by Russell’s death’.
