She’s come a long way since the notorious ‘leaking’ of that sex tape in 2003. Before that, her only claim to fame was that she was the daughter of Robert Kardashian, the lawyer who famously got O.J Simpson off a double murder rap.
But nowadays she doesn’t need any help in the fame game, as she is actually starring in her own one. In a weird art imitating life scenario, the aim of the game is to get more famous and achieve a celebrity style status, which of course, Kim knows all about.
Called ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’, the game was released on June 25th and has already ranked second in the most-downloaded free apps category, with some experts predicting that this could be Kim’s most lucrative enterprise yet. In fact, some are even suggesting that the Queen of Reality TV could pocket over $200 million, going by the number three iTunes ranking.
Kim spoke to E! News on Monday about the launch: “This project has been an amazing experience. I’m so excited that people are enjoying the game!” She added: “I partnered last year with a fantastic company called Glu Mobile to create what is now the No. 3 Free and No. 5 Grossing game on the Apple App Store. We collaborated on every aspect of the game’s design details and continue to do so with the updates we are bringing out.”
The game has proved to be a hit with players who have awarded it a five-star rating. And Cowen & Company analyst Douglas Creutz said in a recent interview with Bloomberg that this was not just down to the Kardashian name: “Obviously, Kim Kardashian’s brand has driven people to download the game. But at this point, the game has taken on a life of its own,” said Creutz.
Kim is not the only person who will profit from download sales, Glu Mobile has seen a 42% rise in shares since the release of the game. Although the actual download of the game is free, players can spend real money on buying digital accessories; for example, $4.99 will get you $5,000 in virtual dollars, and to give you an idea of what this will buy you in the game, a pair of designer heels will cost around $4,000.
Kim is not only lending her name and image to the reality game, but her voice too, and spent a day in the studio recording snippets such as ‘I love your style,’ ‘I love that on you,’ and ‘I’m so excited’. She also offers players advice throughout the game, drawing on her extensive knowledge of how to draw out the minimum of talent in order to make it go the furthest.
Her advice includes such pearls of wisdom as – ‘Dating famous people will get you more fans, too.’ But she has shown her humble side by acknowledging her fans could possibly come up with some good ideas for the game, despite them not being anywhere near as famous as her: “I love that fans are constantly telling me on social media their favorite parts of the game and even offering suggestions.”
And even her more famous other half, who actually worked and did something to be famous, Kanye West added: “We’re working really hard to integrate fan feedback and we’ve already added one of my favorite vacation spots to the game! There’s so much more to come, including plenty of cute new looks and exotic locations.”
So if you fancy being as famous as Kim Kardashian, albeit in your bedroom and on a game that no one will see, you can download it by going to iTunes.com.
