There’s a new style trend in Hollywood and it is for all things pink and girly and celebrities are turning their backs on traditional white wedding gowns and opting for blush pink hues wedding dresses when they take up their nuptials! With starlets such as Jessica Biel leading this new trend, wearing a bold cotton candy-coloured Giambattista Valli weddong dress as she tied the knot with Justin Timberlake in Italy last week, as revealed in People magazine today, many other leading ladies are following in her stylish footsteps.
Other Hollywood stars that are taking a walk down the aisle in pink hued wedding dresses are Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Margherita Missoni. It all shows that ladies are deciding to go against the old fashioned ivory, cream and white coloured wedding dresses, so favoured in the past, and are choosing instead for an ultra modern take on a classic look. And designers are cashing in on this new trend by creating some gorgeous and unique wedding dresses, with labels such as Chanel, Elie Saab and Versace previewing a selection of flesh-hued creations at the couture runway shows in Paris this spring.
A spokesperson for Brides.com writes: “Opting instead for a blush gown, in shades like peachy-pink and strawberries and cream, will keep your colorful wedding dress feeling ultra-modern without sacrificing on traditional bridal style.” And the advice does not stop there, with recommendations that brides should look to designers such as Isaac Mizrahi, Monique Lhuillier, Vera Wang and Carolina Herrera, who all stock blush-coloured designs. One of the first celebrities to go for a pink themed wedding, including the dress was Gwen Stefani, who married rocker Gavin Rossdale back in 2002, and wore a unique pink and white dress.
Whilst our very own Anne Hathaway married Adam Shulman wearing a Valentino gown that was hand-painted pink and last year Reese Witherspoon wore a petal pink Monique Lhuillier dress for her wedding to Jim Toth. Some ladies even choose to wear matching pink versions of the same creation, with Missoni heiress Margherita Maccapani Missoni wedding her racing driver beau, Eugenio Amos, in a cream Giambattista Valli creation and slipping into an identical pink version for the wedding reception.
Jessica Biel told People magazine that she accessorised the custom-made strapless gown, which featured light pink floral motifs and ruffles, with a long veil decorated with pearls, and a pink pearl bracelet belonging to her mother. The 30-year-old told People: “I actually surprised myself when I chose my dress. It’s a style I will only ever wear that one day… It was very feminine and fun.” And it seems that Justin was a fan of his new wife’s wedding gown choice too, as he commented that his bride was ‘the most beautiful thing I have ever seen’. So it seems that if you truly want to set your future husband’s pulse racing on your wedding day, then you should wear a pink wedding gown, as the trend is set to continue right through to 2013. And as brides fashion director Rachel Leonard, adds: “You don’t have to wear a white dress anymore, but it still has to look like a wedding dress. The trick is to find a color that’s flattering to your skin tone, and not everyone looks great in white.”
