The US X Factor judge – Nicole Scherzinger – was in the UK today to officially open London’s biggest shopping centre. The huge new shopping centre boasts an incredible 300 shops, 70 bars and restaurants, a 17 screen 3D Vue cinema and a 14 lane bowling alley so it was only right that an A list star was there to oversee proceedings. Nicole, who was wearing a black cut out dress and platform heels, performed five songs to a rapt crowd and was later joined by Pixie Lott who was dressed in a more casual outfit of tartan shirt and jeans.
Westfield is set to be Europe’s largest megastore and queues had already started forming before the doors opened at 8am. It is estimated that over 200,000 shoppers are thought to have walked through Westfields door today and other celebrities who were spotted perusing the shops included Kelly Brook and Nick Grimshaw.
The shopping centre consists of 1.9million square feet of retail and leisure facilities and 1.1million square feet of office space and has an amazing 5,000 car parking spaces. It features a number of high end designer stores and a champagne bar. Surrounding the main body of the centre is an open air ‘high street’ with a gallery of some of the instore brands that are available. There is also a Great Eastern Market which contains an array of delicatessens, bakeries and chocolatiers.
The mayor of London, Boris Johnson, who was also present for the ceremonial opening said, “Westfield’s Stratford City project is setting the pace for the transformation of east London. It is one of the most important legacies of the 2012 Olympics. It will create 18,000 jobs and, as a result of Westfield’s investment, have some of the most modern additions to London’s public transport infrastructure.”
