Nicole Kidman fronts Jimmy Coo’s Autumn/Winter campaign 2013

She is the Oscar-winning actress who won our hearts in films such as Australia, The Stepford Wives and Dead Calm, but the news today regarding Ms Kidman is not about her latest movie role, it has been announced that she is the leading lady in Jimmy Choo’s latest campaign.


The 46-year-old Australian actress has been posing for a set of pictures, showcasing the designer’s new collection for autumn and winter, and all taken by esteemed photographer Mikael Jansson. Ms Kidman is seen in various reposes, channeling a theme of Alfred Hitchcock’s damaged leading ladies. The set of pictures, released today, show Ms Kidman with a fashionable short cut bob hairstyle, and in several atmospheric settings, all wearing a selection of the designer labels new collection.


The theme of the shoot appears to be that of a femme fatale, and have a decidedly mysterious and almost sinister appeal to them. You do not know whether the lady is in distress, or planning her next victim. Whatever is going on in Ms Kidman’s mind when the shots were taken, she provides a dramatic and intense overall effect.


And it appears that Ms Kidman’s acting experience has stood her in good stead to be able to accurately encompass the mood that Jansson wanted to portray. She said in a statement regarding the new campaign: “I really enjoyed being able to play a role that was strong, sexy and in control. I got into a relationship with the photographer and Mikael is very intuitive, he knows what I am thinking and feeling and is able to translate it through the camera.”


This is not the first time that Ms Kidman has appeared in an advertising campaign, as she has previously starred in a mini film to promote the iconic perfume – Chanel No.5 and also in an Omega watch promotion.


Ms Kidman is currently promoting Jimmy Choo’s latest collection, which has been designed under the directorship of Sandra Choi, who is now the sole creative director of the luxury brand, and Choi has since released a statement in which she told reporters for her admiration for the Hollywood actress: “I’m such a great admirer and feel enormously honoured to be working with Nicole Kidman,” she added. “Nicole is one of the finest actresses in the world, who I knew could convey the empowered glamour of the brand. But she is also so nuanced and refined; she brings an attitude of defiance, strength, sensuality and elegance.”


The campaign shots will be published officially in August, with the promise of old school cinematic feel that gives a nod to the ‘power and seduction of the Jimmy Choo woman.’

Ms Kidman also spoke of the correlation between acting and costumes, commenting: “I’ve always loved fashion, and often use it as a way to get into character,” she added. “There is a lot of complexity, mystery and femininity to the Jimmy Choo woman.”

The actress is embarking on her first tenure as a member of the main competition grand jury at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and has just finished production on the biopic film of Grace Kelly, called Grace Of Monaco, which will be released early next year.
