If you were lucky enough to find a shiny new games console under the tree this Christmas, then you probably can’t wait for all the new games releases of 2013. Here’s our rundown of the most hotly anticipated games of the year.
For the Xbox and Playstation 3, Anarchy Reigns was released to much praise in Japan and the US last year, and now it’s the UK’s turn. From the developer behind Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta, it’s a heavy-hitting action-packed bear of a game that pits player against player in simultaneous battle. There are a range of modes including Tag Team battles and Battle Royal, where you challenge others to a fight for victory. Released January 11.
A must for any petrolhead, Grid 2 is an adrenaline-fuelled simulator in which you race for and manage a touring car team. Available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Grid 2 is expected to be released in the summer. If it’s anything as good as Grid 1, which won a gaming BAFTA, we can’t wait. You race across three continents in cars which span four decades, so your dream vehicle is bound to be there.
Dead Space 3
The third in the decade’s most successful survival-horror game, Dead Space 3 takes gamers on a more action-orientated route. Our two heroes, Isaac Clarke and soldier John Carver must join forces to explore the frozen planet of Tau Volantis in a bid to track down the secret they hope will end the mutant Necromorph plague for good. For the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, it is due for release on February 8.
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Capturing the brooding Aliens atmosphere, Aliens: Colonial Marines comes with well-thought out characters, each with their own personality traits, in keeping with the original squad in James Cameron’s cult classic. Lighting effects and claustrophobic corridors make sure the tension builds as you do battle with the enemy. Due for release for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U and PC on February 15.
Grand Theft Auto V
Whenever there is a new Grand Theft Auto, fans simply can’t wait to get it into their consoles. And, this, the first game in the series for five years, is more ambitious than ever. Set in Los Santos, the new version offers new characters and a world that is even bigger than ever, where you can even play at the bottom of the ocean floor. For the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, Grand Theft Auto V is due for a March release date.
DmC: Devil May Cry
British developer Ninja has already come in for a fair bit of criticism for its emo reworking of DmC’s hero Dante, but many believe this title, due out for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC on January 18, is shaping up to be something pretty special. With fierce new weapons and never-before-seen content, you can unravel the untold story of Dante’s twin brother Vergil.
