New Opulence is key trend for Party Season

With the richest of textures, ornate embroidery, embellished dresses and exquisite jewels, this Fall and Winter is set to be the most opulent ever. Gilt trimmed gowns compliment bejewelled hair pieces, whilst you can add sparkle and shine from gorgeous over the top accessories. For a truly fabulous day time look, keep it simple with one statement piece, teamed with a sleek separate, such as a crisp white shirt or soft knit. For total evening opulence, go catwalk crazy with embellished dresses of brocade, appliqués, supersize jewellery and glamourous smokey eyes make up. Here’s what we are lusting after:

Lace-appliquéd organza dress – £3,755

This year, Alber Elbaz celebrated his decade anniversary as Creative Director at Lanvin, and his FW12 show was a fabulous affair. Hot from the wow-worthy lineup, this red organza dress captivated the front row. Note the contrasting black lace appliqués – expertly placed to create the most figure-flattering silhouette. Clash the ruby hue with popping pink pumps, copying the catwalk with supersized jewels and a sleek box clutch.

Dolce & Gabbana

Embroidered lace dress – £4,375

Dolce & Gabbana’s standout FW12 collection was a sartorial feast for the eyes, with embellishment, tapestries and Baroque motifs in abundance. This lace dress features the gold-tone copper embroidery that adorned many of the runway pieces. Be sure to wear your hair swept back to focus attention on the exquisite craftsmanship, choosing tonal accessories for the most glamorous style statement.

Lace-appliquéd silk-chiffon and satin dress – £3,040

Adored by the likes of Juliette Binoche, Natalie Portman and Tilda Swinton, Alber Elbaz was in good company as he celebrated his tenth year as Creative Director of Lanvin. The FW12 collection took on an appropriately celebratory mood, with this lace-appliquéd emerald dress standing out as an unmissable highlight from the designer’s jewel-toned party-ready parade. Do like the models and team this silk-chiffon piece with a statement necklace and strappy sandals.

Jason Wu

Velvet-sleeved lace and silk-shantung dress – £3,555

Jason Wu’s fiery red silk-shantung and black lace dress is the height of new-season opulence. Embellished with sparkling beads and crafted with a dramatic cascading ruffle split, this velvet-sleeved piece exudes screen-siren glamour. Mirror the runway styling and wear yours with dark tights and a neat box clutch.

Lace dress – £295

Brocade ruled the runways for FW12 so tap the trend with DKNY’s striking foil-appliquéd dress. The glittering dark gold fuses effortlessly into black lace for an intensely radiant effect. Style this scalloped piece with a Bardot-inspired up-do and a slick of red lipstick for party-perfect glamour this season.

Michael Kors

Sequined midi dress – £6,000

Michael Kors’ fall runway wooed and wowed the front row, and this molten midi dress was undoubtedly the highlight of the collection. Crafted from hundreds of gold sequins sewn onto nude tulle for light-as-air appeal and skirt-swishing movement, it’s a masterclass in 1920s glamour. We love the dropped waist, which keeps the silhouette from feeling too fitted, as well as the skin-flashing mesh panels. Master the heady glamour of a bygone era by teaming this fabulous flapper-inspired style with strappy sandals, as seen at the show.
