Forget skinny, ditch the stiletto, and don’t even think about flares or boot cut, 2014 is all about a new set of trends and online store ASOS are at the cutting edge of what is going to be hot this year.
The first thing to get your head around is that you’re going to have to remember some new style names, but the second and best thing is that they all come in different colours, so once you’ve picked your favourite, you can mix it up with light shades for the spring and summer, swapping for darker in the autumn and winter. So what do ASOS reckon are going to be the hot hitters this year?
Well, first up are the Ridley High Waist Jeans. These jeans have a skinny leg and a high waist, which makes them ideal for ladies with lovely long legs, but need a little extra control in the tummy area. The jeans graze the ankles so they also elongate the legs, adding a few extra inches and the skinny fit pulls in the bottom and tummy. Wear with a long tee shirt to hide the high waist and add high heels to accentuate those legs even more. From £14.
Next we have the Whitby Low Rise Jeans, which are also a skinny fit, and touch the ankles. These have a lower waist however, but if you have a washboard stomach and want to show it off, these are your ideal pair of jeans to wear to do so. With added stretch for a comfortable fit, team with a pair of high heeled boots for maximum effect. From £24.
Our next pair are not my favourite I have to admit, they remind me of Jessica Simpson when she made her comeback at a concert and wore a pair of unflattering ‘mom’ jeans, which did nothing for her figure. I think if you have a great figure you can get away with wearing these Farleigh Mom Jeans; they come with a high waist, they are a little baggy and sit on the ankles. From £35 but let’s move on.
Similar to the Farleigh are the Brady Boyfriend, which are also a baggy pair of jeans, but as these are slouchy through the thigh to the knee, and then get slimmer to the ankle, they are much more flattering. They also stop just before the ankle, which makes for a nicer silhouette. The trick with these jeans is to go for a vintage wash, and add your own touches to them, so stick on a patch or two and customise them to make them your own. From £30.
Finally, you didn’t think we’d leave out jeggings did you? Particularly as they have been my staple go to item of clothing for the past year or so. This season sees jeggings taking on a series of different colours and dyes and a great example of this are the Jameson Denim Jeggings. They are available as a low-rise pair and in acid dyes, a light denim wash, a greyed blue, clean black, a mid blue, and washed indigo. Jeggings are simply the perfect pair of jeans to just bung on when you are in a rush and want something casual. From £25.
All jeans featured are available to buy through ASOS.com.
