Samsung say they are set to own the tablet market in 2014, and revealed their first two products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, the NotePro and the TabPro. The company claims the new portfolio “redefines what a tablet can do” with both tablets designed to work for business and pleasure.
Samsung are hoping that these two products will smash any competition from Apple this year, with new features and operating systems at the heart of the products. There is one Galaxy NotePro, complete with a 12.2” screen, and three TabPros, featuring 8.4”, 10.1” and 12.2” screens, that will all be available to buy in the UK later this year. The NotePro will feature the S Pen stylus, as do other existing Galaxy Note devices, and to compliment this, the Note Pro includes such features as the Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write and S Finder, which were introduced on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
The telecommunications company from South Korea revealed that both the NotePro and TabPro use a brand new and bespoke interface, based on Google’s Android. Samsung says that the new “Magazine” user interface allows users to personalise the tablet, more than any of their previous Android versions. Utilising a 16:10 screen ratio, with the option of displaying news and social media updates within the homescreen, this versatile screen allows the user to “flip” through digital magazines, review detailed work documents or enjoy watching films complete with dual speakers.
Boasting 12.2” screens, making these devices the largest mainstream tablets available, they also offer a full HD display. Samsung are hoping that the addition of features such as the upgrade of a new four-window multitasking mode, which displays four applications rather than two, will appeal to business users. Both the NotePro and the TabPro will include Remote PC software to access computers from anywhere in the world, and the WebEx conferencing software.
Simon Stanford, vice-president of Samsung UK and Ireland’s IT & Mobile Division, said: “We created the Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO series to kick off a year in which Samsung truly establishes its leadership in the tablet market. This new line offers the best in media consumption and productivity, combining the industry’s best viewing experience in a tablet with Samsung’s award-winning design legacy.”
He added “The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO demonstrate our commitment to providing our customers with an extraordinarily versatile product, further extending their digital experience into everyday life than ever before.”
All the new devices feature up to 64GB of storage, HD 2560 x 1600 pixels screens, run Android 4.4 KitKat, come in Wi-Fi and LTE variants and have 8-megapixel rear cameras.
There are also a range of Bluetooth accessories to compliment the new devices, which include a mouse. The Samsung Galaxy Note Pro also comes with an “Ultimate User Content Gift Package,” which gives the user around $700 worth of the premium pre-paid, long-term subscription offers. Offers include Bitcasa, Bloomberg Businessweek+, Blurb, Cisco WebEx Meetings, Dropbox, Easilydo Pro for Tablet, Evernote, Hancom Office for Android, LinkedIn, LIVESPORT.TV, NY Times, Oxford Advanced Learner’s A-Z and Sketchbook Pro.
