She’s the Hollywood actress with a pedigree family that includes mum Goldie Hawn and stepdad Kurt Russell. She boasts a rockstar boyfriend in Muse lead singer Matt Bellamy, and has a body and the looks to die for. But this busy actress and mum of two isn’t resting on her past achievements, in fact, she found the time to co-found a brand new sport and leisure wear collection called Fabletics.
The Fabletics range is designed to fit in with women’s busy lifestyles, something that Hudson can only too readily identify with. Hudson wanted to create a range of clothing that could be worn inside or outside the gym. But not only that, she also wanted the range to be multifunctional, and designed to fit most female body types.
Hudson co-founded the Fabletics line of athletic-wear with the team behind JustFab, and created a wardrobe that could cross over from workout sessions to everyday activities. And whereas Hudson says she’s not a technician, she “had a lot of input” into the line, regarding the shape of the clothes and the colours.
Hudson declares on the Fabletics website: “With Fabletics, we want to create a community… a movement, to help you live fit and achieve your passions in life.” And as the actress comes from a family that enjoys an active lifestyle, she says that designing the clothing range was a bit of a no brainer: “To me, it seems an obvious fit. I come from such an active family,” she said. Her trips with her family include skiing in Colorado, and she also loves most sports and dancing. Two of her favorite activities, she said, are Pilates and dance.
The clothing range is not just about wear-ability however; as Hudson explains that a lot of attention was paid to the details on the pieces. There are useful pockets on many of the items in her range, and some of the shirts feature mesh paneling with cutouts to improve the fit and feel of the garment.
Hudson was interviewed at Equinox gym in West Los Angeles, and explained that it was important to her that the garments also made her feel and look good. She used the leggings, priced at $49.95, as an example “I wanted them to support my tushy — that makes me feel really confident,” she said.
The Fabletics online store works on a subscription basis, where once you have answered a few questions to create a your Lifestyle Profile, the site will then work out new outfits, based on your life, your monthly budget and your preferred type of workout. You then have the chance to either buy the suggestions put forward, or you can skip that month altogether.
If you don’t fancy the long-term commitment of a subscription service you can always buy the outfits or individual items from the online store, or in the Equinox shop, they also are available on a subscription basis, with additions every month.
