If you thought navy blue lipsticks only belonged in films like The Addams Family, think again. When Olivia Palermo wore a deep French Navy lip colour at Dior’s Paris Fashion Week Show, we all stood up and took note.
The difference between wearing black lipstick and navy blue is that black can look overly gothic and reminiscent of a troubled youth. Navy, however is sophisticated and teamed with the right make-up can appear dramatic without seeming weird.
Palermo’s make-up artist, Daniel Martin, said: “I paired a navy lipstick with barely-there makeup, which adds depth and mystique to a sophisticated look—hence, a ‘navy is the new red’ effect.”
If you fancy trying the navy blue lipstick trend, here are our favourites:
This lipstick just goes to show that you can pair denim with literally anything. A medium denim blue shade, perfect if you don’t want full on navy blue, which is metallic and has an iridescent glow thanks to the ultra-fine pearls. A matte formula that stays moisturizing.
At the other end of the color spectrum, this almost black hue has touches of indigo when applied on the lips which add an almost A/B sheen to the shade. A deep midnight color that comes in a matte finish and stays on the lips thanks to the essential oils.
A good medium blue here from Dior, that is pretty close to the color that Palermo wore to the Fashion Show. Long-lasting color that delivers exceptional moisturizing and revitalizing action thanks to the filling properties of hyaluronic acid spheres. Has a plumping effect on the lips and there’s a huge palette of colors available in satin or matte finishes.
Probably the deepest navy lipstick you are going to find without it falling into the black category. Squid ink from Amuse Bouche gives a gorgeous lush color that keeps the lips hydrated throughout the day. Lovely glossy product, thanks to the ingredients of omega oils and vitamins that give a truly saturated color.
An intensely dark, indigo-blue lipstick with tyrian purple undertones that is luxurious and long-lasting. This matte shade has a velvety texture and finishes with a slight shimmer on the lips which lifts the color. Made with 99% natural ingredients.
Bright and bold blue here from Anastasia Beverly Hills presented in a liquid form that some people may find easier to apply. The product is a matte lipstick with a rich color that gives an electric blue finish that lasts for hours.
The creamy matte texture adds to the rich color of this 90’s throwback color from Urban Decay. Highly pigmented, this lush lipstick will not dry out lips, but keep them hydrated throughout the day and leaves them soft and conditioned.
If you want your lipstick to last for 24 hours then this is the one for you. Apply it like a gloss then watch it set to a matte finish. A gorgeous indigo color that comes in a creamy finish and is highly pigmented.
