One Direction launch make-up range for their fans

It seems only a few weeks ago that we were reporting on the boy’s fronting an anti-bullying campaign, alongside Office Depot, which featured a range of stationary supplies. Fast forward to today and One Direction show no signs of relaxing, as they released details of their new make-up range, not for themselves you understand, but for their girlie fans.

More merchandise from One Direction as they launch a make-up range for their fans

But as with any over saturation of the market, even us seasoned reporters are beginning to get a little, well, can we say jaded at this latest product release? The make-up range includes their second nail polish collection, and features lip gloss, cheek colours and lip polishes, in a collaboration with make-up brand MUA Make-up Academy.

All very well and good, but in the lyrics to ‘What Makes You Beautiful‘, there is a line that goes – ‘Don’t need make-up to cover up, Being the way that you are is enough’, so why are the boys now bringing out a make-up range, targeting the very fans that this song was aimed for? And just one more thing, what do five teenage boys know about make-up products in the first place?

And when you check out the publicity blurb, with snippets such as the band have taken time out from their busy whirlwind tour to choose their favourite scented lip gloss, telling Fashionista.com that ‘Harry loves strawberry,’ ‘Zayn loves watermelon’, while ‘Niall loves cherry’, ‘Louis Loves Vanilla’ and ‘Liam Payne’s a blueberry fan’. Really? Do we really think that five teenage boys picked out a lip gloss each?

Not only that, but if you have a favourite band member, then you can choose which nail polish you like as each boy has personally chosen their favourite nail colour (represented by a picture of each hanging from the lid). Yes, I’m sure they did, I bet if you asked Zayn, Harry, Niall, Louis or Liam which colour nail polish was their favourite, they wouldn’t have a clue.

Not that this will bother their millions of fans but it does seem to me like a merchandise collection too far. For those who can’t get enough of the band, the MUA Make-up Academy “One Direction” Little Things range start from £3 and go on sale July 29 at selected Superdrug stores or at superdrug.com and www.muacosmetics.com

Also available for fans are a myriad of 1D merchandise, such as onesies, duvet covers, dolls, blankets and even singing toothbrushes, now why doesn’t that surprise me?

The boys are also bringing out their very own fragrance in September, called ‘Our Moment’.

I can’t wait.
