Marni launch first fragrance for women 1It surely was only a matter of time before luxury brand Marni launched their own perfume, and since the fashion house signed a deal with Estee Lauder last year, it appears that time has come. Their first signature scent is for women and confirmation is that it will hit the stores in February 2013.

Marni’s creative director and founder Consuelo Castiglioni, gave WWD a heads up as to what fans can expect from the new scent. “The perfume reflects Marni’s fashion, certainly,” she adds “Because it’s a perfume that’s quite individual, that doesn’t evoke anything in particular. It’s for a woman who dresses for herself, who doesn’t follow trends but is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric.”

Marni launch first fragrance for women 2And following the quirky designs of the fashion brand, we wouldn’t expect an ordinary bottle and we are not disappointed. The bottle takes its inspiration from an old bottle that Castiglioni discovered in a flea market 20 years ago. Evidently Castiglioni wanted a shape that was markedly different from the sleek and slender bottles that have dominated perfume counters. Designing one that was so different is a trait of Marni fashion and once she had decided on the shape she then covered it in Marni’s signature polka dots. “I wanted a bottle that was kind of traditional, that is, one that lasts over time, like the clothes we make, which last and you can still wear two or three years from now,” Castiglioni explained to WWD. “It isn’t seasonal. I think this bottle reflects our concept – you want to keep it. It also has the dots, which are part of our world, and a play on proportions with the cap. These elements are also important in our fashion.”

So what does Marni smell like? Well, according to WWD it is a “blend of spicy and woody notes” with an “intense rose oil to inject voluptuousness.” Veronique Gabai-Pinsky, global brand president of Aramis, said, “Marni is all about a very discrete confidence.” She referenced the fragrance’s outer box, which juxtaposes textured and vinyl surfaces, plus a combination of white and beige with red lettering.

Marni’s first scent launches in February 2013 and will retail for $105 for a 65-ml. bottle. The full range will include a $50 purse spray (which comes with a fabulous doll) as well as body lotion, shower gel and body cream.
