Luxury Breaks in Sri Lanka & The Maldives

Your honeymoon is probably the most important holiday of your life, so getting the destination and hotel right are essential.

For sheer indulgence, breath-taking scenery and unbelievably azure-blue seas, the Indian Ocean is hard to beat.

We picked three quite different destinations and chosen a luxury hotel in each. This is to give you some idea of what you can expect to see in the area, and what the hotel offers.

Kandy – Sri Lanka

Kandy is a major city in Sri Lanka, and is located in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. Kandy is home to the sacred Buddhist site – The Temple of the Tooth, which has now been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. It was also the last capital of the Sinhala kings and home to the famous Perahera festival.

Kandy is set on the shores of a lake, and is surrounded by lush green hills, mist-topped mountains and turquoise seas.

Because of the ideal weather conditions, many of Sri Lanka’s tea estates are situated close to Kandy.

If you don’t want to bike then hike instead to Adam’s Peak or Sri Pada, Sri Lanka’s holy mountain. This stunning peak is said to be the place where Adam first set foot on earth after God cast him out of the Garden of Eden, and has been the focus of pilgrims from all religions for centuries.

Baa Atoll, Maldives

Honeymooners have long been vacationing in the Maldives, and for good reason. The azure blue of the sea, the impossibly white sands, and the ocean bound villas are a draw for the romantic soul in all of us. Some however have criticised the Maldives for a lack of things to do, well we disagree.

You can take advantage of the surroundings and book a 90 minute massage, or go diving with dolphins and turtles, or how about a day of fishing on a speedboat or a cookery class?
