It might have started off as a joke but that hasn’t stopped executives at Pizza Hut from creating a brand new fragrance, that smells exactly of – wait for it – their freshly made pizzas! The campaign to get a spray that smelt the same as a box of a Pizza Hut being opened started on Facebox, where the Canadian branch posted up a comment on how much customer loved the smell of a freshly baked pizza. This lead onto what a fragrance would be called it the smell could ever be bottled.
The post received so many responses, some negative but many positive, that the powers that be decided to fulfil their customers dreams and create a smell of a freshly baked pizza. With many suggestions of what the scent should be named, such as Eau Ver Weight, and Heaven Scent, Grease Lightening and Pizzaz, the pizza giants finally settled on Eau De Pizza Hut. The company released a limited edition of only 100 bottles and the campaign saw the Pizza Hut Canadian Facebook page reach 100,00 likes.
The scent has been described as having ‘ top notes of freshly baked, hand-tossed dough’ and Beverley D’Cruz, Marketing and Product Development Director for Pizza Hut Canada, explained the creation: “What better way to celebrate our Facebook fans than by providing them with a way to enjoy the fresh smell of Pizza Hut pizza whenever they want!”
It all started with this post: ‘Do you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened? We thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called?’ That comment prompted 160 likes and 109 shares and over 300 comments.
The 100 bottles were given away as freebies to the first one hundred people who shared the original post, but with so much interest in the new fragrance, it is thought that Pizza Hut might manufacture so more. Ms D’Cruz said: “For now, we’ve only produced 110 bottles of Eau de Pizza Hut, but who knows what the future has in store. The good news is people can enjoy the great smell of fresh Pizza Hut pizza any day of the week by ordering one of our signature crust pizzas.”
