As summer fades into autumn it’s time for a new fragrance we always say. Perfumeries take advantage of the change from season to season. It is their chance to capitalise on fresher scents for spring, warmer woody notes for autumn and delivering the peppery spice at Christmas.
This autumn has seen some truly note-worthy offerings, from Louis Vuitton’s first fragrance in 70 years, to a revamped classic in Chanel’s latest perfume.
Here are the autumn fragrances we have fallen in love with:
Penhaligon’s The Coveted Duchess Rose Eau de Parfum – £178 for 75ml
The classic British brand Penhaligon’s has two new additions to their Portraits range, but this is our favourite. Each scent in the collection has its own storyline and belong to an upper-class family of animals, hence the bottle stoppers. This fragrance combines fresh rose with woody undertones and lifts the whole scent with top notes of mandarin.
Chanel No.5 L’Eau Spray – £96 for 100ml
Launched over 95 years ago, Chanel No. 5 has remained virtually untouched and is still the world’s best-selling fragrance. If you feel the scent is a little powdery and dated, this new version may well suit you. It is fresh with citrus top notes including lemon and mandarin, has warming middle notes of honey, jasmine and rose and finishes with a soft musk of vetiver and cedar.
Alexander McQueen Eau de Parfum – £75 for 50ml
This perfume packs a punch, as you would expect from Alexander McQueen. Combining top notes of pink and black pepper, clove and jasmine, the fragrance warms into tuberose and ylang ylang whilst the vetiver leaves a soft, powdery scent for ages after spraying.
Coach Eau de Parfum – £69 for 90ml
If you don’t want to let the summer scents of fruit and citrus pass you by just yet, this is a great compromise. Featuring sparkling raspberries combined with Turkish rose and leaving a gorgeous suede musk base, this could well be your new favourite.
Prada La Femme Eau de Parfum – £69 for 50ml
Classed as an oriental floral, this is a pretty strong scent that marries frangipani, ylang ylang, vanilla and tuberose, and ends with a hint of vetiver which leaves a subtle muskiness on the wrists. Perfect for autumn.
Acqua Di Parma Peonia Nobile- £76 for 50ml
With hints of rose, black pepper, geranium, raspberry and freesia, this perfume is young at heart and light enough to be worn during the day. Its top notes are mostly rose-based, peony features midway and honey finishes off the whole scent.
Michael Kors Wonderlust Eau de Parfum – £84 for 100ml
A much more musky and woody scent here from Michael Kors. It starts off innocently enough, with citrus top notes of bergamot, mandarin, then warms down with almond milk and pink pepper and finishes nicely with a woody base note of heliotrope and sandalwood.
Louis Vuitton Rose des Vents – £180 for 100ml
This fragrance from Louis Vuitton just sparkles. It contains two different types of roses and combines these with iris top notes, which are complimented with middle notes of cedar and spice, then the base comes into play and we smell ripe fruits and musky overtones.
