Lancome Génifique: ‘The Secret of Youthful Skin’. Really?

Thank goodness I hear you say, another skin cream that says it will give us youthful looking skin and has been clinically approved and tested on, say 10 women of whom 87% say state is gave them younger looking skin (I made that up!). Not that there aren’t already hundreds to choose from and we already have probably about ten on them on our bathroom shelves. Not convinced? Bought too many to be taken in by the hype by now? I don’t blame you. Every five minutes there seems to be a break through in the beauty industry and we should be buying into the latest cream revolution that promises to rejuvenate tired looking skin, replenish skins natural balance, restore our skins lustre or replace lost elasticity. So what is special about this one and why should we buy it?

Well, the blurb states that:

At the very origin of your skin’s youth: your genes. Genes produce specific proteins. With age, their presence diminishes. Now, boost your genes activity and stimulate the production of youth proteins. Discover the skin you were born to have. Breathtakingly beautiful, skin looks as if it is lit from within. Its youthful quality returns, cushiony soft, astonishingly even, dramatically refined. The Youth Activating Concentrate reveals the secret of youthful skin. Revealed, drop by drop, beautiful skin for every woman at every age. Instantly, skin feels silky soft, smooth and supple. Drop by drop, day and night, skin appears breathtakingly beautiful, radiant, even-toned and more refined. Skin looks noticeably younger, as if infused with life. The Génifique range consists of a Génifique Concentrate, a Crème, a Repair Night Cream and a cream for Eyes. We have chosen to feature the youth Nutrics crème.

Génifique Nutrics – $44

Inspired by gene research. Everyday, change the destiny of skin that feels dry. Lancome Laboratories have identified that skin is well-nourished with moisture is characterized by the presence of certain proteins on the skin surface which are the result of gene expression. Lancome invents Génifique Nutrics. Its formula stimulates the production of barrier reinforcing proteins on the skins surface. Immersed in a velvety rich cream, skin is instantly comfortable and nourished with moisture to leave the skin feeling softer and more supple. 10 genes, 8 proteins and 2 lipids associated with dry skin. 12 Years of research. 3 Patents. Use daily, after Génifique Youth Activating serum. Concentrate®, morning and evening

So, having read all that, are you convinced as I am? I am not a scientist and apart from the fact that Kate and Pippa Middleton are fans, I am not sure how your genes can be manipulated from the outside. Skin creams travel only so far into the epidermis so how they can affect your overall skin gene make up is beyond me. So with that in mind, lets just say I haven’t stopped googling cosmetic surgeons in my zipcode yet :(
