Never one to do things by halves, Lady Gaga has not only revealed that she has created the world’s first black perfume, but in the campaign’s photographs, she has revealed a little more of herself than usual. A picture taken to promote the exclusive fragrance, called ‘Fame: The First Ever Black Eau de Parfum’, and taken by Steven Klein, features the Paparazzi singer naked and reclining with one hand behind her head, and the other holding the perfume whilst a few scantily clad miniature muscular male models are strategically placed to cover her naughty bits. Lady Gaga is usually known for her outrageous costumes and was once pictured wearing a dress made entirely of meat. In this promotional shot however, she is completely naked, except for the mini men who look like they are crawling over her body. The perfume has been created by fragrance firm Coty Beauty and executive for the company, Steve Mormoris says, “It is the first-ever black eau de parfum… and it will smell different on different people.” Lady Gaga tweeted the controversial picture to her fans which she calls ‘little monsters’ and added that, ‘I won’t lie I’m a bit nervous. its been a while since i’ve shared some work with you. But i’m so proud of Steven+I, we really did not sleep!’ Lady Gaga then tweeted the photo with the message, ‘Photo by STEVEN KLEIN. The First Ever Black Eau de Parfum. Model: Lady Gaga.’
The perfume is a black liquid that when sprayed goes clear, and it was Lady Gaga who apparently came up with this idea. The president of Coty, Renato Semerari said, “She is an artist that is never satisfied with the status quo – she always has this way of challenging everybody and trying to do something more, something different. She has her own ideas and very often they’re very interesting and challenging…really, she’s not the one who says, “It’s OK, let’s move on and turn the page.” She’s always thinking, “Can we do more?” ‘This is a very stimulating partnership; and she’s pushed us with her ideas, we’ve come with our own ideas – and the combination of the two is very valuable.’ And the CEO of Coty Inc is equally delighted with Lady Gaga’s imput, s
aying, ‘Lady Gaga joins a legendary cast of talent for whom Coty has created scents. Gaga’s launch represents my personal credo brought to life….Innovate or die! Absolutely everything about this launch is innovative, from the bottle, to the juice, to the lady herself….She’s zeitgeist in a bottle.’
If you want to know what Fame smells like, here’s an early description taken from Lady Gaga back in 2011 when she was first creating the perfume. Lady Gaga told the media that she thought it would smell like ‘like an expensive hooker’ and revealed that, “(Blood and semen) is in the perfume but it doesn’t smell like it. You just get sort of the after feeling of sex from the semen and the blood is sort of primal. And the blood was taken from my own blood sample so it’s like a sense of having me on your skin.” Okay then! The name for the perfume apparently comes from Lady Gaga’s belief that anyone can attain fame. She said, “Fame is an illusion – if you really want it, anyone can have it.”
The fragrance Fame by Lady Gaga will be available next month.
