The beauty industry has been waiting patiently, ever since news broke last September that Katie Holmes would be the first ever celebrity face of make up giants Bobbi Brown. And today, one of the first campaign images starring the actress has been released as she heads up what is likely to be the cosmetics giants’ most successful campaigns ever.
Holmes looks suitably sexy, as she smoulders for the camera, in Bobbi Browns new Long Wear Cream Shadow Sticks. She is rocking a considerably thinner look than usual, but this may be down to her recent split with Hollywood all round good guy and icon – Tom Cruise.
Bobbi Brown cosmetics are renowned for their natural approach to beauty and it would seem that Holmes’ equally minimal and natural approach to makeup would make this a match made in heaven. Apparently the actress is a long time fan of Bobbi Brown’s cosmetics, and recently commented: “I really like her philosophy that makeup makes you feel beautiful. I’ve always been a fan of her makeup, because it’s so easy to apply. Her color palettes aren’t extreme, so when I first started wearing makeup it felt comfortable and I didn’t feel like I had too much on, which can happen.”
The actress, 34, looks gloriously happy in the ad, with her smoky kohl-rimmed eyes and super long and waved hair blown away. She is wearing a statement necklace and a beaded, strapless gown, that could have even come from her own label – Holmes & Yang. And it appears that Holmes will be more than a pretty face for the brand, as when news hit the media last September of her appointment to the cosmetics label, Bobbi Brown issued a statement that read Holmes would be a ‘muse and collaborator’.
She will apparently be co-designing a capsule cosmetics collection for the fall 2013 season. The actress told WWD at the time: “This is my first foray into beauty products and the evolution of a look. You want the hair and make-up to support the woman, just like you want the clothes to support the woman. You don’t want to lose the woman. That’s how Jeanne [Yang] and I design.”
Ms Holmes was chosen specifically by Bobbi Brown to front their new campaign, who insisted that she was not looking to appoint somebody famous; rather a figure that her customer base could relate to. She told the LA Times: “I didn’t choose her because she’s a celebrity, I really didn’t. She’s not 20, she has a lot on her plate from acting to design. She was interested in how I balance work and being a mother. I think she’s a great role model and that women will relate to her.”
She added in WWD that Ms Holmes is also ‘just ridiculously naturally beautiful.’
Ms Holmes, who is preparing to stage her second New York Fashion Week show in February, has not sidelined her acting career entirely.
She has just completed a Broadway run in the play Dead Accounts, and is set to appear in two new movies in the coming year.
