We are more used to seeing the supermodel strut her stuff down catwalks all over the world, but yesterday, Kate Moss was showcasing a rather different side to her, which highlighted her love of high-tech gadgets. The model is launching a range of phone accessories with high street branch Carphone Warehouse, and she held a not so private lunch at London’s Ivy restaurant, to reveal the collection.
Friends of the model, such as Sadie Frost, Jamie Winstone, Nick Grimshaw and Pixie Geldof all rocked up to help Kate with the launch.
Kate said at the lunch: “I was inspired by all the things I love. It was very much about the texture and the detail – a star, a stud, some leather.” The supermodel was inspired by some of her personal items, such as a silver star necklace she wears, the vintage crocodile skin on an Alfred Dunhill lighter, and an anchor tattoo on her wrist, which just so happens to be the logo on every accessory in the range.
The supermodel said: “The range is a reflection of my personal style and every piece was inspired by something I already own and wear. After spending time designing each piece individually, I’ve loved seeing the range and my vision come to life.”
Kate spoke of how the Carphone Warehouse team asked her to be a part of their team: “They approached me,” she explained, “I looked into it and I realised that there was nothing else like it out there – there was nothing that I liked, anyway – nothing really luxury, nothing really chic.”
Kate is hoping that her Carphone Warehouse accessory range proves to be as successful as her collaboration with Topshop, in which certain pieces sold out within minutes. But it appears that the phone company already have high hopes as they are already working on a second range, with the addition of headphones and detachable charms.
The Kate Moss Accessories collection for Carphone Warehouse will be available in selected stores and online at Carphonewarehouse.com from July 24. Prices start at £14.99 for a smartphone case (designs available for iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S4) and go up to £49.99 for a large tablet cover.
Julian Diment, Marketing Director at Carphone Warehouse comments: “We’re excited to see our customers’ reaction when the range goes on sale next week. We know they’ve been waiting for a credible, fashion line for their phones and Kate has really delivered. Our design team is already hard at work with Kate on the next collection, and exploring the full potential of “fashion-tech”.”
It is thought that the range will appeal to ladies who want a designer case for their smartphone, but cannot afford the outrageous prices charged by some of the most expensive fashion houses. And with Kate Moss’s name behind the brand, with the subtle but edgy black leather and gold hardware, this is a seriously cool look, with a definite rock chick vibe, but also manages to keep this side of classy.
And as the supermodel herself says: “My phone’s as much a part of my look as my bag or shoes, and yet there’s so little choice out there.”
