The Queen of The Great British Bake-Off has showed she has style wrapped around her little finger, as Mary Berry stepped out in exactly the same necklace as the future Queen of England.
Kate Middleton wore the High Street retailer Zara’s £19.99 necklace to the première of the biopic of Nelson Mandela – The Long Walk to Freedom, last Thursday, and to the un-initiated eye, teamed with her Roland Mouret gown, you might expect it to be constructed from a row of precious stones, with a Royal provenance. But when Mary Berry wore the very same necklace on the Graham Norton show on the following Friday, tongues starting wagging and fashionistas starting digging and discovered that in fact, this expensive piece of jewellery was actually a bargain item from Zara costing £19.99.
Which only goes to show that our future Queen of England has great taste and that you don’t need a million bucks to make a glamorous fashion statement. It also proves that our favourite baking Queen Mary Berry is still rocking a trendy ‘with-it’ style, and still has what it takes in the fashion stakes. Perhaps she could even teach the Duchess of Cambridge a few things.
And as ELLE Accessories Editor, Donna Wallace admitted: “Zara is not necessarily known as somewhere to go for great jewellery, but whilst the collection is not as comprehensive their footwear, Zara has been producing some great pieces over recent seasons. With this double success over the weekend, the secret is finally out.”
This is not the first time Mary has chosen a Zara piece to wear on national TV, remember that floral bomber jacket she donned in series four of The Great British Bake Off? It practically flew off the shelves at Zara and canny shoppers bought up a few online and resold them on ebay for 6 times their original selling price.
Looks like the same thing may be happening with the Mary and Kate Zara necklace, as that is also a sell out too. Just goes to show that 78 year old Mary can still show the 31 year old Duchess a few tricks in the style department.
