The Duchess of Cambridge certainly made one persons day yesterday, when she went on a shopping trip in chilly London. She was spotted visiting several High Street stores, and popped into Topshop, where, despite being surrounded by some innocuous security types, she managed to spend a few minutes browsing through the maternity racks, relatively unnoticed.
The Duchess has long championed local high street stores, and has caused a selling frenzy, when she has been seen out in certain items of clothing from popular retailers, such as Hobbs, Warehouse, Zara, Reiss and of course Topshop. In fact, so popular have the clothes that she has previously worn become, that many stores have relaunched certain dresses, in different colours and slightly different styles, so that eager customers, who want to look a little like Kate, do not miss out.
Called ‘The Kate Effect’, it appears that whatever the Duchess now wears will be an instant hit, and for mums to be, they must be viewing what the Duchess chooses withe extra interest, as dressing a growing bump and managing to look stylish is a tricky thing to pull off.
The Royal Duchess was spotted wearing comfortable and sensible flat boots for her shopping trip, and she teamed these with a short fur trimmed brown jacket, black leggings and a pair of pearl earings. Her hair was worn back in a ponytail, probably to make the shopping a little easier!
This is the 31-year-olds first child with husband Prince William, which is due in July, and fashionistas all over the world will be watching to see how she dresses the royal bump.
One shopper who managed to get up close and a little bit personal with the Duchess, was Layla Maan, a Business Development Manager, who tweeted her pleasure at spotting the Royal later on in the day on Twitter: ‘Oh Just an average day, Kate Middleton smiled at me! :) oh best bit… This was in Topshop! Truly Beautiful :) (sic)’.
Layla spoke to the MailOnline in an interview saying: ‘She really is stunning up close. I am still in shock! I had to sit down after. She was just browsing next to me and then was shortly in the personal shopping area which I usually am in but they had security there.’
We will all have to wait a little while longer to see exactly what Kate purchased, if anything, but one thing it certain, whatever it was, it will be a huge sellout for Topshop and mums to be will want to wear whatever it is!
