Not content with poaching away Muse leader singer Matt Bellamy from thousands of their female fans and then having the bare faced cheek to have his baby and live in total unmarried bliss, Kate Hudson has now bagged a super modelling campaign for Ann Taylor. Ann Taylor appears to have a penchant for asking leading actresses to star in her advertising shoots as she as used in previous campaigns everyone from Demi Moore, Katie Holmes to Naomi Watts. And to add to Demi’s woes this year, she has been dropped as the face of this season’s spring and summer for Ms Hudson to take over. Perhaps they wanted a more joyous actress that has a happy background to offer for their collection, rather than the troubled actress Demi, of whom break ups and sad twitter up dates are all she has had to offer this year.
Kate, on the other hand, has gone from strength to strength, with her rock solid bond to Muse frontman Matt and their gorgeous baby Bingham, who was born last July, after a whirlwind romance of 8 months. The 32 year old actress has been photographed out and about in such places as London, Miami and the Hawn/Russell’s favourite ski-ing resort Aspen, for their annual ski-ing trips after Christmas. Always looking happy and contented, maybe she was the perfect choice for Ann Taylor who wanted a brighter, sunnier look for the collection of 2012 and Kate certainly fits the bill.
The campaign photographs were taken by photographer Tom Munro in an estate in Pasadena. And if you want to see some relaxed ‘during and after’ the shoot pictures, then just catch them here or head off to Ann Taylor’s facebook page where all is revealed. Last season’s autumn and winter campaign, in an attempt to match the seasons, was an altogether more seductive and atmospheric affair, shot by Patrick Demarchelier. It appears, much as Marks and Spencers have tried to do, that Ann Taylor is seeking a younger customer base by hiring Kate Hudson. They have also revealed they are starting a fashion blog for the store which will be aimed at getting students interested in the clothes. Judging by the style and content of what Kate is wearing however, there do not seem to be many items that students would be able to afford or want to wear. However, as many of them are perhaps, more likely to know her through her romantic comedies than Demi Moore, that in itself might be enough to attract a new type of customer.
Kate herself commented in a press release that accompanied the campaign, “I love fashion, and their new Spring collection is so stylish and hip and colorful! As a young girl I looked up to the sophisticated style of Ann Taylor so it’s been very cool to see how the brand has evolved to meet the changing needs of modern women. The new Ann Taylor is not afraid to be sexy and real – because they design for every generation. The clothes are stylish and comfortable, easy and wearable. They really help you look and feel perfectly put together for any occasion.” And word is that her new employers are just as happy with her joining the company as well, enthusing that the actress ‘truly embodies’ their image now. The Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing for Ann Taylor, Kristen Dykstra, says why, “While she is most known as a beautiful and talented actress, she is also a devoted mother, daughter, sister and philanthropist who manages to do it all with a radiant smile, joie de vivre and effortless style.”
