Kate Hudson has revealed that she is now designing for Anne Taylor, in an interview with WWD. She has fronted the high-end fashion label’s campaign for the last two years, but she has always modelled the clothes, and not had any say in the creative process. Now however, the 33-year-old Hollywood actress is taking a more hands on role, as she told WWD that she has been working with the label’s creative director for the last few months.
Ann Taylor issued a statement on their Facebook page that announced the actress’s involvement with the brand would continue for the next two seasons: ‘We’re thrilled to announce that award-winning actress Kate Hudson will return as ambassador of our spring and summer 2013 campaigns! All items will be available in late February in Ann Taylor stores nationwide and on anntaylor.com.’
Kate revealed that it was her own red carpet style, reworked for an every-day look, that has been the inspiration for the up and coming Spring and Summer collections. She said: “I think the bright colors, sharper lines, and graphic prints give the spring collection a really cool twist. I love the versatility in this collection. I fell in love with this new little black dress.”
This is Ms Hudson’s third campaign for Ann Taylor, and signs are that the brands fashion fans love her. She has elicited comments on their Facebook page that are more than complimentary. Typical comments include:
Love Kate Hudson, love Ann Taylor=Good partnership
I love!!! Kate Hudson’s beauty is both timeless and oh so elegant.
I love Kate Hudson she’s an awesome face for Ann Taylor ❤
She is so Beautiful and she is a great asset to Ann Taylor. I love the dress.
Ms Hudson is currently living in Los Angeles with her partner Muse frontman Matt Bellamy and her two sons, Ryder and Bingham.
In the newly released photographs for the latest campaign, she is seen in a variety of the brands clothes, wearing an assortment of feminine looks from bright white lace dresses, to floaty print frocks and colourful skirts.
Ms Hudson is not the first celebrity actress to front a campaign for Ann Taylor; she follows in the footsteps of Katie Holmes, Demi Moore and model Heidi Klum. She first modeled for them back on 2012, where she presented the label’s Spring Collection.
She told WWD why she had decided to stay with the brand: “Ann Taylor is great at creating iconic wardrobe staples and updating them season after season. I love that [creative director] Lisa Axelson is designing clothes for real women.”
There are a few voices out there however, that feel that Ms Hudson is not a good example of the brand’s target audience, as some have disagreed that her style is suited to the more clean tailored image of the label. And Ms Hudson has said herself, that her style is a little more relaxed than a strictly suited look. She told the Associated Press: “I definitely have more of an easy style. I hate the word bohemian, but it sort of is.”
She also revealed that she keeps many of her vintage clothes, something her mother – Goldie Hawn, never did. “I archive a lot of my pieces – from when Stella (McCartney) was at Chloe and Tom Ford at YSL and Gucci,’ she said. “My mom never kept her clothes. She was big into (Azzedine) Alaia clothes and she didn’t keep them! She also had Ossie Clark dresses from the ’70s, and I never got to wear them, so I decided when and if I have a little girl in my life, maybe she’ll be into them and want to go into my closet someday.”
Ms Hudson told WWD that her first foray into fashion design had ‘been a great creative experience’.
The Spring Collection will be on sale from February online and in stores.
