She is best known for her hippy, laid back boho style fashion, so it was no surprise that Topshop picked Kate Bosworth to head up their new festival fashion range. The 29 year actress was asked to consult with the designers on brand new 16 piece collection, which will include floral headresses, buckled boots and furry gillets.
Topshop named Kate as their new ambassador back in December, specifically to front the festival campaign which Topshop has described as a ‘360 degree campaign that involves music, clothes, film, journeys and the attitude and energy of British festivals’.
And to show that she was taking her role as ambassador of the brand seriously, Kate was snapped wearing a combo outfit from the new collection, of a laser-cut suede vest and micro-short combo, which she helped Topshop design, at Coachella. She told Style.com: “The design team and I thought a lot about the festival season, and, particularly with this collection, a lot of it was about the California girl. Obviously the perfect place to wear it was Coachella.”
The popular actress is a regular on many festival circuits and admitted that she has attended so many that she has lost count. It makes perfect sense for Topshop to enlist her as their face of the festivals, not just because of her festival background, but for her impeccable casual summer style as well.
To help launch the festival project, Topshop have released a short video, starring Kate called ‘The Road to Coachella’, which showcases the actress floating around California’s Mono Lake whilst she was on her way to the Palm Springs music event earlier this year. During her journey she wore many pieces from the collection. The video was shot by her filmmaker boyfriend Michael Polish, who often accompanies her on her festival jaunts.
Of the new festival collection, Kate said: “I’ve always had a love of fashion. To gain learning experience from the Topshop design team has been a great opportunity for me. Our intent was to create fresh, wearable, and effortless festival pieces. I am proud of our work together and I adore these pieces.”
And it seems that she has already impressed the Topshop Creative Director Kate Phelan, who said: “Kate and I were discussing the summer trends and how she had been one of our inspirations, she was here working with us on our Christmas project – the next day Kate came in with all these incredible images and references and shared what her ultimate festival outfits looked like. It is an organic extension of Kate’s fashion sense aligned with the Topshop brand . We think that’s fresh and exciting.”
As well as releasing the new fashion collection, Topshop will also be hosting, as part of their Fashion Campaign, live secret pop up gigs all over the globe, to which they will hand out invitations to random customers either instore, on tablets or who are shopping on their mobiles. There will also be a series of competitions and sets of clues for customers to guess and win tickets.
The festival fashion collection is instore and online now. Visit topshop.com for more information.
