Well we had a bit of an Indian summer last weekend, but you can tell that autumn has definitely arrived, what with the cooler evenings and the crisper mornings, we are all feeling the need to wrap up a little bit warmer. And whereas we are not quite ready to don our thermals and baggy sweaters, a jumper dress seems to be the perfect compromise.
With stripey knits and cowl necks, skater style cuts and muted colours, there really is a jumper dress to suit all figures. So to show you the best of the autumn crop, here are our must-haves for this season:
Steilmann – Blue and Grey Wool Blend Shift Dress – £24.99
A bargain at only £24.99, this dress is perfect if the weather happens to warm up, as you can wear it with or without a turtleneck sweater underneath. We love the colourblocking of the blue skirt with the black and grey braided waist belt. And it looks stylish and elegant with the addition of wool in the fabric. Gorgeous. Sizes in 12 to 20. Handwash. From TK Maxx.
Yumi Daisy dress – £48.00
A pretty dress from quirky fashionista label Yumi. Available in either Navy or Burgundy, the dress features cute daisy flowers on the chest, described by the brand as a ‘unique Yumi geo-flower intarsia design’. As the fabric contains 8% wool this dress is handwash only. Sizes in 8 to 16. From House of Fraser.
Penny Zig Zag Dress With Slip – £59.00
A real eye-catching dress from Monsoon and at a very reasonable price we think. A bit of the Karen Millen look about this one, but for a fraction of the cost, the subtle zig zag pattern gives the dress a gorgeous 70’s retro feel and includes a taupe under-slip. Sizes in S, M, L, and XL. From Monsoon.
Nine West – Red Knitted Jumper Dress – £34.99
How ideal is this red sweater dress from Nine West? In autumnal reddish browns, with a flattering flowing feel, and a lovely cable knit pattern to add to the seasonal look. Comes in black or grey if you want to mix up the colours. Sizes XS to L. From TK Maxx.
Bright Neppy Bodycon Dress – £32.00
This dress from Topshop is also available in bright green and red, but we just adore this electric blue colour, not just because it is so not an autumnal hue, but because we think it will be eye-catching amongst the browns, oranges and berries that so many people tend to wear this season. Sizes in 6 to 16. From Topshop.
Sofia Jaquard Dress – £59.00
You don’t normally associate bright corals with the season of autumn, but we are making an exception as we love this dress so much. Beautiful sea green match the pretty salmon hues in a Missoni inspired pattern of zig zagging stripes. There is a slight stretch to the fabric and a scooped neckline with short sleeves finishes the style. Sizes in S, M, L, and XL. From Monsoon.
Desigual Tamy dress – £99.00
If you haven’t already heard of the designer Desigual, you soon will do. Their signature bright geometric patterns are becoming classics in their own right, and this dress is a great example of what to expect. Fabulous eye-catching colours in a striped pattern. Desigual prides itself on being ´´not the same´´. And we agree! Sizes in XS to XXL. From House of Fraser.
