Jack Osborne Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis

Just three short weeks after becoming a father for the first time, Jack Osborne has revealed that he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He became concerned about his health after he lost over 60% of vision in his left eye and he told Hello magazine, that while he was waiting for the final results he went through many different emotions, “While I was waiting for the final results, I got really, really angry. The timing was so bad. I’d just had a baby, work was going great – I kept thinking, ‘Why now?’ Then I got really sad for about two days, and after that I realised, being angry and upset is not going to do anything at this point – if anything it’s only going to make it worse.” Jack, who has a two month old daughter called Pearl with his fiancé Lisa, says that his motto is now ‘Adapt and overcome’. He said that with the help of Lisa and his family and friends, he feels much more positive and supported.

Multiple sclerosis affects more women than men and around 2 – 5% of cases are found in children under 16. It is a disease of the central nervous system which affects the brain and the nervous system. In the brain there are nerves which transmit signals to muscles and sensory organs and are protected by myelin sheath layers. MS destroys these sheaths which effectively stops the brain being able to send signals to various organs and muscles. MS can cause blindness, slurred speech, muscle weakness and a loss of coordination. At present there is not a cure for MS.

Jack Osborne came to fame back in 2002 when he featured on his famous parents US TV show The Osbornes, where he was typically depicted as a stroppy teenager. He later got his own series where he had to slim down as he was taking part in dare devil activities for Adrenaline Junkie. His parents have spoken out in a heartbreaking interview with Hello magazine with Sharon typically blaming herself. “I keep thinking, ‘what did I do wrong? What did I eat or drink when I was pregnant?’ I feel like it’s somehow my fault.” Ozzy added, “If it was me, you’d think, ‘Ozzy had a reputation and it caught up with him,’ but Jack is such a good guy.” His sister Kelly has already taken to Twitter to tweet messages of support such as, ‘Please support my brother @mrjacko in not only his bravery but honesty! i love you so much jack & I’m so proud of you!’ And Jack himself has been on Twitter to thank his fans for the numerous messages of help and love he has received, ‘Thank you all so much for the kind and inspirational words. It means a lot. #adaptandovercome.’

It appears that Jack’s fiancee Lisa has the best message for Jack as she told the magazine, “Jack will have to change his life for the better – get healthier, not get stressed.” We wish him and his new family all the best.
