Apart from her dazzling performances on the silver screen, Gwyneth Paltrow is probably best known for her healthy lifestyle and her macrobiotic diet. Fans of the Hollywood actress already know that she has a website blog called goop.com, dedicated to wellness with shopping tips and recipes, but now the actress has released a new cookbook chock full of healthy dishes that she says are guaranteed to make you ‘look and feel great’.
The actress had already published two cookbooks, My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness, and Notes From my Kitchen Table, but the reason she went for a third is that after a particularly gruelling schedule last Spring, she felt tired and faint and so booked an appointment to see her doctor. The doctor diagnosed anemia and told her that her vitamin D levels were low and she was suffering from stress. She decided then to write a book that would help people who wanted to lose weight, look good and feel more energetic.
The 40-year-old’s latest book of cuisine, It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great, is compiled with the help of food writer Julia Turshen, to make sure that the dishes are fun and exciting and that people will actually want to eat them. And although the book will not be released for another four months, orders for the book are already flooding into Amazon, who say they have been inundated.
Gwyneth is known to be a bit of a foodie, and says she is never happier than when she is pottering around her own kitchen with a tea towel over her shoulder. When she was in her twenties, she was renowned for sticking to a strict macrobiotic diet, but says that these days, she is much more relaxed about the type of foods she eats, and admits to the occasional pizza with fries.
The new cookbook contains 185 recipes, which include huevos rancheros, hummus tartine with scallion-mint pesto, salmon burgers with pickled ginger, and even chocolate brownies with banana ice cream, all with the aim of making you feel much more energetic.
Gwyneth says that she still detoxes before a film role and likes to work out, but eats all the time and loves rich foods like cheese.
FOOD TIPS FROM GWYNETH
‘Invest in what’s real. Clean as you go. Drink while you cook. Make it fun. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It will be what it will be
‘Cooking makes me feel so calm and happy – doing things that are routine and mundane. If I’m stressed out, I start to cook and I completely relax.’
‘I love bread and cocktail sauce,’
‘I honestly think that even ordering a pizza and sitting down together as a family is great.’
‘My dad loved to barbecue – he’d fire up his grill and do all kinds of ribs, hamburgers and hot dogs. It wasn’t very healthy back in the day.
‘I was macrobiotic for three or four years, but when I got pregnant with Apple I wanted french fries, grilled cheese… it went out the window.
‘I eat fish, a little dairy… but I love cheese. We’ll make chocolate chip cookies and eat them, but sugar makes me feel pretty bad. I have coffee and wine. I’ve got lots of lovely vices.’
It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great will be released on 2 April 2013
