It’s that time of year again where celebrities who want or need a little extra publicity venture forth into the Australian jungle to take part in I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here! And although in past series we have seen some pretty Z list stars take part, it’s not until the show gets going that the entertainment really starts and you begin to see who will conquer their phobias and who will end up a nervous wreck. I mean, just who could have predicted the sheer value for money the nutritionist Gillian McKeith was going to provide, with her ‘staged’ fainting fits and over-the-top reactions to every single creepy crawly. So who have we got this year that will be eating bugs, holding large crustaceans in their mouths for lengths of time, diving into fish guts and generally having an awful time of it?
Well, word on the street is that world championship boxer David Haye is flying out this week, and he will be joined by a couple of soap stars to keep him company.
Apparently, Helen Flanagan, who played Rosie Webster in Coronation Street will compete alongside Charlie Brooks who is famous for playing Janine Butcher in EastEnders.
It is also thought that former Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts will join the girls, and whether the British ladies will bond with their American counterpart is going to be interesting.
Of course I’m A Celebrity wouldn’t be the same without some reality TV stars and filling this role comfortably is ex-Made In Chelsea star Hugo Taylor, who it is hoped will bring a touch of class and elegance to the show.
And if there is too much class going on then we can always rely on Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson to bring it down a peg or too.
She will be ably assisted by comedian Brian Conley, and the cockney darts player Eric Bristow.
As for other acting types, there are rumours that former Doctor Who actor Colin Baker could be in on some jungle action and there is even talk of an appearance from US actor and wrestler The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson.
Now he would be good for lifting heavy things like well, rocks and logs I guess. There is always room for a celebrity chef or two and this year sees Rosemary Shrager, star of ITV’s ‘Ladette to Lady’ and finally there may be a spot for a female MP. I’m thinking this has got to be Louise Mensch surely!
A source for the new series said that the show has got some of the most gruesome Bushtucker trials to date, with stars having to consume such items as kangaroo testicles and raw shark brains. They added: “It is hoped that it will be the most dramatic ever.” Whilst another told the Sunday Mirror newspaper: “They’ve been trying to find the right celebrities for a few months now and are pleased with who they have selected. Charlie is a real coup for them. She has been on TV since she was young and they’re looking forward to the public seeing what she’s really like.”
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! will be hosted as ever by Ant and Dec, and starts on ITV on November 11.
