How To Extend Your Summer Wardrobe Through to Autumn

Although this week has seen an Indian Summer with temperatures reaching highs of 75 degrees in southern areas of the UK, make no mistake, Autumn is well on its way. And for those of us who do not have the pennies to buy a completely new wardrobe, thoughts will inevitably turn to how do you maximise your Summer wardrobe for the colder months ahead? Is there any way to make do with what you already have hanging in the closet? Well, thanks to the continued trends of flower prints, colour blocking and layering, the answer is YES! With clever mix and matching and use of combining what you would usually wear in the summer with jumpers, jeans, boots and leggings, it is possible to create completely different outfits with a little imagination.

Take this colour block dress we featured recently from New Look. The Ponte Panel Tunic costs £14.99 and has a soft ponte jersey fabric in a smart tailored shift style with slashed neck. Worn in the summer on its own with ballet pumps, now team it for autumn with a black roll neck jumper, black opaque tights and knee-length boots to keep out the chills. Finish off with a smart blazer style jacket. Visit www.newlook.com for details.

If you bought a rose print dress similar to this one from Topshop, you can wear it in the autumn with a chunky cable knit jumper over the top and flared jeans with trainers. The Pretty Rose Karina Dress by Motel at £52.00 is a gorgeous capped sleeve A line dress in rose print with this seasons trendy peter pan collar and wide waistband with ruched back. Or wear with a wrap around cream or pink cardigan and thick tights with ballet pumps. Buy from www.topshop.com

Colour block dresses are easy to take from summer to autumn, such as this River Island Green Ponti Dress for £28.00. You can pick out either the contrasting colours in the dress and go for a matching cardigan or even a blouse or shirt underneath, then accessorise with black stockings, boots and bags. Or you can use the main colour and use a completely different one from the spectrum to contrast, such as a bright pink or orange jacket.Buy from www.riverisland.co.uk

Playsuits and jumpsuits can also be worn in the cooler autumn months by adding thicker tights, a denim jacket over the top of them or a cardigan or sweater in a matching colour. So the golden rules are: add a jumper under a dress, team a knee-length dress with skinny jeans or flares, wear thick tights and pull on a pullover!
